Cant decide whether to paint them standard GW colours or try my own thing...

Has anyone else painted them alternate colours/any ideas for alternate colours?

I was thinking back + gold detailing and purple nemesis blades/eyes? Thoughts?

That sounds pretty cool, my brother uses purple power weapons on his space wolves and they look just brilliant. One thing, apparently black is really difficult to do? I've never tried, just what I've heard.

I shamelessly stole this dude's colour scheme; http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/385168.page

But then again, my GK guys are 'alpha legion', so your colour scheme might fit your idea better.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Wow those guys look saweeet! I'm no where near that standard! block colours and a tentative wash are about all I can manage so I'm hoping to get a bit more practice

Thats kinda what I was thinking Ray Age.

I quite like the idea but I need a third colour. Standard gk have silver (main colour) blue (blades and eyes) and red (heavy weapons like psycannons and heraldic plates). They also have gold detailing but I'm going to carry that over anyway. So atm I'm trying to decide what to replace the red with...

Oh I was hoping black would be easy

Here is Draigo in black with orange, silver and blue.

I think the black looks really good.

Found here if you want to zoom in on Draigo.

Black can be hard, but itself not to difficult. The main thing that make people say black is hard is that it can tend to look flat, so you have to highlight. If you can highlight a little it turns out wonderfully!

Another trick is paint your model black, and then give it an asuriman (sp?) Blue wash. This gives a bluish tint on the edges and keeps that solid flat look away

I saw a post a while back that had dark red Grey Knights which looked awesome! I can't seem to find it now though :(

So my vote is for that. (If there is a vote)

Otherwise paint them how you want you're the one who is going to spend all that time painting them so make sure you like it first

Brilliant!! I'll give that a shot then!

Do you know how this was done?

Cheers for the replies guys! Still need a colour to replace the red???? I was thinking maybe a shade of blue.. I guess I'll just have to buy the paints and see what looks right

Do you know how this was done?

How what was done the black armor?

I primed the models white then I painted the armor black using "Negro Black" from the Game color line from Vallejo. I love their eye dropper style bottles, the paint lasts a really long time.

It was nothing special, just black painted armor.
