Sorry if this is the wrong kind of thing to put in this forum, but i'd like to see if i can get this answered here before i start cruising through tech supports and stuff. The other day, i finally agreed to get fallout 3, at some of my friend's persuasion. I bought the game of the year edition through Steam, and i'm running it on PC windows 7. I started up the game and got through the tutorial without any incident, and got to megaton without a problem. I walked around awhile, and then, a little after i entered that weapon's store, crator supplies or whatever it's called, the game froze on me. I patiantly waited for it to clear itself up, but nothing happened, so i tried escape, and it didn't work. I did ctrl+alt+delete, and started up a task manager, but it wouldn't switch to it, and nothing else would start. I turned off the computer, and turned it on again, but all i got was a white screen with the fallout sounds in the backround. I flipped the little red switch behind the computer and turned everything off, and then flipped it again, and things started up normally again. I went back to the game and played again, and this time i only played a couple minutes before it did it again. I tried everything i did last time, and then turned it all off and tried again. Same results. And again. And again. I can't play more than 5 minutes without the whole thing freezing and having to turn off the entire computer to get it going again. I know it can't be a memory problem, because i just got the game, and there are only 3 saves on the whole thing. I tried going to documents>my documents>my games>fallout3>fallout, pressing ctrl+f and searching bUseThreadedAI and changing the 0 to a 1, someone told me that would help, but it didn't. I really want to play this game, but i don't know how i'll be able to if i have to shut down the entire computer every 5 minutes to play.

You've clearly angered the Machine Spirit inside your cogitator unit. I suggest chanting the proper litanies to the Machine God and anointing its hull with the sacred oils of unfreezyness.

Oh, and this should probably be in the video game section.

Your computer is mad because Fallout 1 and 2 are better.

Ask this on the Bethesda, Steam or the Nexus forums, you'll probably get a better responce there. It unlikey that its a mod that's causing the problem but make sure that you've got no plugins other than the Fallout master file enabled in your directory. If you can load the game and actually play it for a few moments open up the console (the tilde key, ` ) and type "coc.testqaitems" and click enter to get you out of the immediate area. If its still crashing whilst in the dev testing room then its either a script's gone wrong within one of the game's core processes for some reason (which I'd recommend just doing a reinstall for to make sure its not something silly) or possibly a hardware incompatability (which I doubt is the issue, Bethesda games are just typically unstable). Run the game on its lowest possible settings within the testing hall and see what happens. =P

Oops! Can a mod move this to video game sections then?

Oh, and don't get started on that Amaya. My friend is a dinosaur as well, i get enough of that from him to begin with.

^^ Really aught to buy Fallout:New Vegas and run the Fallout 3 emulator with it. It allows you to play the two games at the same time, including DLC and third party mods, with the same character and with the advantage of including the additions that NV added (like weapon mods or the companion wheel). Just a thought seeing as NV goes for a pittance nowadays.
