Hey guys, i am having a few problems with painting my space wolves, i got the citadel spray gun for christmas so i am planning on using that for the base-coat. What i am not sure of is what colours to be using, I want to paint my wolves in the proper grey colour, or pre heresy colours if you will.
What i need to know is what would be the best colour to base-coat them with?
After base-coating i intend on dry brushing the lighter shades, again what would be the best shades to go with?
Many Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

I never used Citadel paints (too expensive here), but judging on the swatches from their site, I'd go for Codex Grey, then wash some Badab Black and highlight again with Codex Grey for a quick paintjob.

For mine I have used:
adeptus battlegrey as a base
codex grey
fortress grey drybrush
and finally a badab black wash.
I'm happy with what I ended up with but I think the official scheme is a bit darker than mine so maybe an extra wash or line highlight instead of drybrush the fortress grey or If you want to put in the effort I'd try mixing battlegrey and codex grey as the main colour and drybrush with a mix of codex and fortress.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Glad to see others doing the Grey Scheme. So many people are going with the blue and i think it just gets old.
I have done my wolves in Grey also. Take a look at the threads i have started to get a glimps at them.
I use an air brush however not the GW one.
Do the following as i am assuming the GW brush is good only for base coating.
Prime your models white. (Krylon Primer is one of the best)
Thin down Adeptus Battle Grey well and base the Wolves.
Then at a 45 degree angle above the modles go in and spray Codex Grey. This will give you a start to natural highlighting.
Then at a 70 degree angle spray a light coat of Fortress Grey.
If you do this then you will need no washes.
It is a very quick method.
Good luck!

Quicker and cheaper is to prime Grey (Krylon), then wash, then drybrush.
Will win tournaments? No way! Effective for the table? Does the job.

While true. I think he is trying to make the most out of the GW Spraygun.
After the base coating that i said then you would only need to go and paint the details.
ALSO! GW paint are EXTREMELY good for airbrushes.
