Hi. If this is in the wrong place, I apologise.
After working out the paint scheme and some very basic background to my Space Marine army, I have started to wonder if I have the right codex!
I would like to go with an old Scottish/Celtic theme. Having clans rather than companies, held together by an influential Chapter master with chaplains playing a large part in the lore of said army.
I am thinking that this doesn't sit very well with the rigid codec space marines that I have got. Maybe it is more akin to the Space Wolves Codex.
But, if I were to do this, how compatable is the space wolves codex with the regular space marine models, because those are the ones that I would like to use.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks.

The blood angels feature the most dynamic chaplains currently in 40k and also feature priests you can model from various tidbits so they might do well. If you have a Scottish mindset you can very easily see a place for deathcompany and a host of other items.

If you want a lot of Chaplains, Blood Angels is probably your best bet. However, Space Wolves could take four Wolf Priests as long as they were equipped differently, and would make for a hell of a choppy army. Either way, I'd want to use Space Wolf bare heads because they look very feral and barbaric, which would look good for the Celtic theme.

They sound like a dead ringer for Space Wolves.

100%. Nothing says you have to use the weird hairdos and whatnot. The only models specific to the Space Wolves are Fenrissian wolves and TWC.
I think they're your best bet for such a chapter.

It's super easy! Paint them a flash color, then hit them with Ogryn Flesh wash. This is super simple and looks good; you can skip the eyes until you're a better painter.

Agreed. It's how I do my Space Wolves heads - paint the face a pale flesh colour, wash with Ogryn Flesh. Done. For hair, it's super simple thanks to GW washes and drybrushing.
Blonde - Basecoat white. Wash with Gryphonne Sepia. For dark blonde, add in a second coat of the Sepia wash.
Brown - Basecoat in whatever shade of brown you want (Calthan, Scorched, Snakebite, etc), wash with Devlan Mud.
Black - Basecoat Charadon Granite. Wash with Badab Black.
White - Basecoat in a light grey. Drybrush Skull White.
Grey - Basecoat white. Drybrush grey.

I think for a Space marine warband that is heavily Celtic themed and held together by a strong leader with his retinue, the Space Wolves rules work the best for that. Wolf priests are really basically just mystical Chaplains with a bit of Apothecary mixed in. Then you could add a Rune Priest who could be the "Merlin/wise man" character.
You could even carry the theme of Celtic warbands further by using the Fenrisian Wolves as if they were some sort of war-hounds. You could even make them look less "wolfy" by using the Wargs from the LoTR line. They are a bit more in appearance like savage dogs, and you can get six models for half the price of the new Fenrisian Wolves.

Celts didn't use runes. They also didn't care that much for wolves.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it. |

Like I said, that's why you turn the Fenrisian Wolf-stuff into hunting Hound-stuff.
Call them the Moor-Hounds. Heck, if my collection wasn't thoroughly Space Marine-ed out, I might even think of that.

It's my understanding that wolves were bad news back then... actually they are hardly good news these days either...

Ok. Thanks for all of the input.
Without looking too much at the imagery of the idea, does the space wolves codex lend itself to using the minis from the normal Space marine range.
I like the look of normal space marines. But think, from what I can tell, the space wolves codex suits my army style more.
So basically, how hard is it do?
And I think blood angels are a bit too classical era in their feel.
