Subject: Guard against Doom

Hi
I am on my third game with Guard and get a Doom of Malantai literally in the front line face of my guardsman line, last night. The Doom proceeds to leech away most of the guardsmen before being blown away by a lascannon.
Anyway, is there anything I can do to negate the Doom. It was suggested to me, at the time, to take a commisar, who would shoot the sergeant if the leadership test against the Doom is failed, thereby negating any further casualties. Although, checking the codex, the commisar allows morale checks to be re-rolled and the Doom tests on leadership...am I missing something or is there no defence?
Also, when deploying from any transport, models are placed within 2" of a door/hatch. Can units then move another 6", or does this apply to only certain veichles (I am having a brain block here).

If the transport moved the troops inside can disembark but cannot move any further. If you disembark before the transport moves than you can move, shoot and (i think) assualt as normal.
The commissar like you thought wouldn't work like that against the doom. I don't know the doom's rules or anything but moral is those 3 things in the book, tank shock, 25% casualties and falling back. But remember you get to use the highest leadership in the unit (the commissar's). Like I said I don't know the rules for the doom.

There are three things you can do to help mitigate the effects of Spirit Leech:
1) Attach a Commissar or IC with high Ld. This will make more likely you pass the Ld test.
2) Put the unit(s) in Chimera, embarked units aren't affected.
3) Cover, Armour saves cannot be taken, however, Invulnerable and Cover saves can be.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Thanks for the prompt replies....although it wasn't the answer i was looking for
So 'blobing up' and a commisar's leadership 9 defence for two shooting phases 'it is'...before I get a chance to shoot the darn thing.

3) Get Cover - Armour saves cannot be taken, however, Invulnerable and Cover saves can be.
Clarified.

And a higher leadership also helps to reduce the number of wounds suffered when you do fail the leadership test.

Think he was referring to this;
Q: Can cover saves be taken against wounds inflicted
by the Doom of Malan’tai’s Spirit Leech ability? (p58)
A: Yes.

And Homer in turn, was referring to the parts he bolded, and how they could be read as meaning "Cover saves and armour saves cannot be taken, however, Invulnerable and Cover saves can be." as opposed to "Cover. Armour saves cannot be taken, however, Invulnerable and Cover saves can be."

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
