Just out of curiosity, anyone tried the Vietnam (Tropic Thunder I think on the website) rules for Flames of War?

The Flames of War Vietnam book is Tropic Lightning. Tropic Thunder is the Vietnam movie spoof with Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black.

I haven't played it, but I've got the book and there are some cool scenarios in it. It looks like it would work nicely for the bigger battles that the rules are meant for (Ia Drang and the like), but probably wouldn't work as well for more guerrilla-type stuff, unless you cooked up some house rules.

As long as your fine with sticking more to the bigger battles (which admittedly, didn't happen that often), I think it would be a fun game. The helicopter models are quite nice too, and I really like the Sheridans as well.

We should combine the two into Tropical Lightning and Thunder, the hilarious game of the Vietnam War.

I like the minis they made for it. Thanks for the input.

It is good, we use the ruleset to fight other modern conflicts like say Yom Kippur or the Falklands using PP miniatures.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

For what it is designed for it works well. The minis are also awesome. Gets a little tiresome after a while, though, with only ever playing infantry on the NVA side of the table. No options for any tanks. Also Blue on Blue battles are really difficult when US vs. US due to the limited AT capability of most of the US armored vehicles. NVA on NVA is not a big deal, though. Infantry can always fight infantry, but the typical US armored cavalry list has nothing to take out armor available.
