Mission : Annihilation
Deployment: Pitched battle

I won the roll and set us thus.... I chose to DW assault my command squad w/Belial

Lazorback out in the corner

Ryan chose to keep his storm raven with Inquisitor and purifiers in reserve and deployed the rest of his forces like this

So with that Ryan tried to steal and failed. Onto my turn one, I hoped to do some damage early as I knew my speeders were not going to last long

DEATHWING TURN 1
My command squad DS onto the left side of the table (the photo is after they ran)
I shuffle around my terminators to make sure I've got LOS to razorbacks. The assault cannon dread moves up to the terrain in front if it.

Everything opens up on razorbacks, I manage to Weapon destroy and immobilize the far right razor with my Lazorback/Ass cannon dread/far right speeder. The 2nd speeder on the right finishes it off with a wrecked result.

Devs and two left termi squads manage to wreck the far left razorback. And my last termi squad in the centre weapon destroys and immobilises the middle left razorback.

Thoughts: OK not too bad, 2 kill points and two purfiers on foot. But I'm sure the return fire is going to hurt alot, I've never played GK's before, but I've read plenty of reports and know how much Psy-Cannon dreads can wreck face.

Ryans Turn 1

He moves his regular dread away from the command squad and disembarks the purifers from the immobile razorback and moves them towards the command squad to double team the deepstrikers. ( Pic taken before he moved them) Everything else stays still apart from the far right purifers who no longer have a ride. They move up towards the middle.

So I dont have many pics from Ryans shooting, (thankfully, its bringing back horrible memories =D)
The assault cannon dread dies from a Ven dreads shooting. Ryan gets a pen and a glance, the pen roll is a 5, I make him re-roll and he gets a 5 again. The far right speeder explodes from another ven dread. The speeder next to it has its missiles blown off and its also stunned.

The purifers on the right and crowe run.

The two purifer squads closing in on Belial open fire and kill one and then they assault in. I believe Ryan casts cleansing flame and hammerhand? I cant remember and my notes are sketchy.

The halberds all attack the DW squad and kill two, then his hammer is with-in 2 inches of someone in base with Belial so he swings on him getting two wounds and I fail an invuln and he dies =(... But not before he kills two himself. The other termies wiff and I make my fearless saves.

Thoughts: Damn, I expected to get shot to bits but I thought I might be able to fair a bit better in assault. But not to worry, I've still got some firepower and two razorbacks to kill!

Turn two soon!

Deatwing turn 2

So this turn is more of the same from me, with out thinking too much I inloaded almost all of my Dakka into the remaining razorbacks, briefly pausing to give the purifiers some krak missile love. When the smoke had cleared the last two razorbacks were wrecked. I also got 3 purifers from the squad second from right which had been forcibly ejected from their ride.
In combat the last two command termies are killed but not before taking one from the already depleted squad with them
The full squad of purfiers got a god consolidation roll and barrelled straight towards my side of the table

Crowifiers turn 2

Ryan rolls for his storm raven and gets it. He turbo boosts directly towards my left infront of my gunline. the two right side purifers move up into storm bolter range.

Ryan fires his POTMS MM at my pred and smashes it!! Then he manages to immbolise my plasma dread (i choose not to re-roll) He then shoots 2 dreads at my devstators and I manage to loose 2 missiles and a lascannon. He also blows up the right speeder, leaving me with one!

storm raven before he shot my pred

Speeder graveyard

Ryans untouched purifier squad that finished off Belial's unit charges the termis on the hill

but it doesnt go well for them, they kill one hammer and I wipe the unit and consolidate towards the storm raven

Onto Deathwing turn 3

I move my combat winning termies closer to the storm raven and decided for some reason decided to move my two right termi squads towards his purifiers just infront of his dreads. I move my only speeder (which had its missile launcher blown off at some point) to try and MM the storm raven

Shooting does not go well for me, the devs cant hurt the storm raven and neither can termies and speeder right in front of it
The lazorback shoots at a dread but doesnt pen. The two right hand termi squads shoot one purifier squad down to 1 member.

I assault the storm raven and managed to get one pen but can only roll a 2 (which fortitude will prolly ignore)

Purifiers turn 3

Ryans inq and purifers get out of the raven read to shoot and assault the termies who tried to destroy their ride
Ryan tries to cast fort on his storm raven but fails!! but it only shakes itself

Ryan moves his untouched purifer squad on the right into zhooting range of my termies in the middle right.

First off for shooting he smashes the Lazorback with a vendread, destroys the landspeeder with a MM PoTMS shot from the storm raven. He then fires the remaining two dreads, the two purifers sitting on the wrecked razorback, the single purifer (with a psycannon) AND the untouched purifers at my termie squad in the middle. I end up losing 4 leaving the claws all alone.

He inquisitor's squad fire at the would be storm raven wreckers and manage to kill the lightning claw termie

And here comes to pain!!!! Inq squad charges on the left

The inq rolls a 2 for his psych out nades? Which means one of my termies tries to attack his own squad but fails. The purifiers then fail to kill a termie and one of my hammers squishes a purifer and then they lose another purifier to a fearless save.

Well that was unexpected, still its not making much difference at the moment since I'm taking a beating!

Deathwing turn 4

So not a whole lot to do here, I move my termies on the right forward (WHY??!?!?!?!!!) and shoot at the purifers killing one. The lonely lightning claws termie moves towards the inquisitor combat to try and lend a hand.
(pic before i moved the LC termie)

In assault the Psych nades roll a 6 but I dont think it does anything (i cant even remember what modifier a 6 causes) I dont lose any termies, then I kill the inquisitor and a purifier winning combat again!! Whooot!

In Ryan's turn four he closes out the game nicely

He moves the two man squad to help out in the combat he's loosing, moves crowe and purifiers up to molest my untouched DW squad which I moved up nicely for him to charge!

Onto shooosting! His dreads focus on my dread and my devs, he blows up the dread and then kills two devs and the remaining lascannon flees.
His right purifiers shoot to soften up the termies they are about to charge and manage to kill one

CHAAAARGE!!! His two purifers join combat on the left and together they wipe out the remainging 3 termies.
Then crowe and friends charge the squad on the right and kill 3, I kill two in return and roll a 1 for my fearless save

So we play a turn 5 but give up half way through.

SOLID VICTORY FOR THE GREY KNIGHTS!!!

I asked Ryan after the game what he would have done differently had he been in my shoes and he thought I should have tried to silence his dreads before the razorbacks, thus protecting my fragile kill points and taking the range advantage offered by krak missiles.

I agreed, and sportingly Ryan agreed to another game!

We rolled sieze ground and spearhead with 4 objectives....

I'll finish that report later!

ooo shiny contemptors. I'm assuming you guys are using just the psybolt auto cannons and not the contemptor psycannon arms?

Which ones are Ven and which ones are regular? I can't tell from the builds.

He was just using the regular Pys-auto cannon dreads in the GK codex..

As for which is which, the ven dreads are the two on my right.

fun looking battle I enjoyed reading. One thing I'd like to mention for your benefit though is your target prioritization. I understand you are playing kill points but I think you put to much firepower on that first psiback. they only have a 24" range not sure about its placement but would the first immobilization result have made it unable to fire at your units? additionally there was no reason to continue fire on it after you destroyed its gun as well until later. you removed that model as a threat so you could have targeted more units with the additional fire power you had.

Again good read just wanted to throw in my 2 cents

Thanks man, your 2 cents are much apprieciated, me and Ryan discussed my target priority after the first game, I'll be sure to includeour after-thoughts but they went along a similar theme to yours.

I'll get some more of the report up tomorrow.
Thanks for looking !

First of all.. thanks for a great game mate. I enjoying against Deathwing for a change and seeing what Purifiers could do to Deathwing. Being a Veteran Deathwing player myself I know all the in's and out's of them and playing against an army that was balanced is always to good to see. I actually felt a little bad killing those Terminators because they looked awesome in the flesh.

I've PM'ed you my list on Facebook so you can update this topic with it so guys know what I was using. I'm actually gonna tinker with this list a little and see if I can make it more competitive and more nastier. I've already got an idea on what I'm gonna do anyway and will test it out on Thursday against my mates Blood Angels.

Please excuse the horrible ''greyness'' of my army, it;s still very much a WIP atm and waiting on parts from various sources is taking longer than expected. If anyone wants to see more of my Adeptus Custodes then check them out below. For a link to my blogs, PM me and I'll send you a link

typically when I think psybacks, I think psybolt + 36' heavy bolters that are str 6.

Psy-assbacks - sounds horrible but essentially it's an extra heavy 4 psycannon though this is probably not common convention in use. This thing would be 24' range assault cannon + psybolts

GAME 2

Seize ground (4 objectives) Pitched battle.

We decided to have a 3 party change around the terrain and we just stayed on the same side for ease.

I win the roll off AGAIN and choose to go first again. (Bad luck Ryan)

Here are the objectives (Custodes)
Ryan places this one on the right side of the table in cover

I place mine on the left side in the open and Ryan places one in the same vicinity

I deploy everything and decided to put Belial and his command squad in normal reserve as opposed to DW assault ( Ryan gave me this idea after the last match)

I find capture and control is my strongest mission and if I can get a clump of objectives together I can usually walk my termies up there and hold them quite effectively. So I deployed 3 squads directly infront of them to walk. Belial's squad can come in where needed.

Ryan deploys diagonally across from me in the same fashion he did in the last game, razors giving cover to dreads, purifiers in the razors and Inq/Purifer in stormraven in reserve

Ryan fails to seize and its over to me.

I move my termies and Dreadnoughts up towards the three clumped objectives and begin shooting. I forget what shot who, but at the end of the phase I had weapon destroyed and immbolized the far left razorback, exploded the middle left one (2 Purfiers die in the explosion) and then I killed the regular dread now with out cover.
Pretty good shooting phase although in hindsight it would probably have been better to destroy all the razorbacks and get those purifiers on foot. Those dreads cant do much to my termies but I couldn't resist taking some shots at one without cover.

Ryan's turn 1 movement

Ryans shooting isn't great but he does manage to silence some of my fire power. One dread blows up the far right landspeeder another weapon destroys my lazorback and the last one managed to immbolise and stun my speeder on the same side.

I believe he runs his 3 man purifer squad towards the middle building to get some cover.

Deathwing turn 2

I roll for Belial's squad and get them. I decide to put the to the middle left of the board ahead of the farmost objective. They scatter back about 6 inches landing directly on said objective.
Everything continues moving forward including the dakka pred which cant see much. The weapon destroyed razorback moves up towards the far right objective in cover and pops smoke.
(Picture taken during shooting phase after I ran the command squad)

Shooting: Some of my termies and the last speeder can only see the immobilised razor and so shoot at it and wreck it. I also wreck the middle right razorback and the pummel the purifers that spilled out and manage to kill 4. Command squad run forward ahead of the objectives. Assault cannon dread runs as it has no targets.

Ryan's turn two (no pics for some reason.)

The storm raven comes in and moves 12. All purifers on foot run to try and get cover, some make it into the building.

Shooting: The storm raven wrecks the assault cannon dread with the MM (he rolls a 5 on the chart and I make him re-roll, and he gets a 5 again =() and kills one terminator with a PoTMS plasma cannon. I forget which dreads shot what but one of them kills my immobile speeder. One shoots my plasma dread and stuns it. All purifers shoot the middle termi squad and manage to kill 3. (no pics)

Turn 3 Deathwing

I move my dakka pred up 12 over the dread wreck and pop smoke. Landspeeder moves up behind. Other termies move forward of shuffle to get shots on the purifers. Belials squad move up to assault the storm raven and get some extra movement.

I mostly shoot the purifers... mostly (sorry shamless aliens reference) I kill the single one and also 2 from one of the middle squads in cover. I also manage to stun the only razorback.

I assault the storm raven and do nothing

Crowifiers turn 3

Ryan moves his storm raven away from the command squad and disembarks the squad inside right infront of Belial. The razor shurgs off the stunned and moves forward. Dreads move up also. His purifers move up into assault range on the middle 2 manDW squad.
Pic taken during movement

Ryan then starts shooting and gets super unlucky =(. He decides he needs to soften up the command squad and shoots the storm raven's plasma cannon at them. First one scatters off so he decides to re-roll and manages to land the pie plate directly on the inq's squad and kills two. The Pysman dreads shoot at the pred and dread, but I make cover saves on both. All remaining purifiers on foot shoot the 2 man termie squad and kill one.

Ryan then assaults belials squad with the inquisitors squad and assaults the middle two purifier squads into the lone terminator.

The big combat goes in my favour.... this is a slight understatment, I wipe the unit for no casualties. Pretty unlucky for Ryan really. I think he got a 2 on the psycho nades.
The lone terminator in the middle gets slaughtered.

My turn 4

I move belials squad towards the three purifers and the remaining two squads shuffle around on the objectives to get some shots into 2 man purifer squad in cover.

I shoot the man 2 squad to death, imbolise the final razorback and what ever remaining firepower i have I put into the raven but fail to hurt it.

I assault into the 3 man purifer squad and loose two termies but wipe the squad.

Ryans turn 4

Its not looking good for ryan but he decides to give it one last go.

His shooting is pretty poor and he can only stun a speeder and kill 3 devastators ( I dont think Ryan was thinking here, there were alot of people chatting to him)
He assaults crowe into the command squad but doesnt do anything and dies and we decide to call it there.

Belial consolidates

I really enjoyed these two games and Ryan was a wonderfull opponent. His advice after the first game really helped and I think he initiated my brain for the second game.

Any tactial advice for either of us would be very cool. Army composition/deployment/target priority etc etc.

OH and thanks for reading !!

I dont really understand the deathwing list. Its not bad, but it has alot of things that confuse me.

The first thing is the load out on the Venerable Dreds. I just dont understand the weapon choices at all and dont see how they compliment the army.

The 3 Landspeeders seem ok for objective mobility, I assume thats why they are there.

I dont understand the predator at all, its geared for anti infantry, which you dont need.

The Devastators and their razor are for anti tank ok.

I think the biggest problem with the list, is that its not a true death wing list. A true death wing list relies on terminator lists for anti infantry through assault, and through cyclone missile launchers for anti tank.

I think you should take out the Devastators, Razor, Dreds, and predator and add alot more terminators.
