Anyone know how to make an avatar for Dakka Dakka from one of your personal photos, something is wrong with my attempt...

[Bourne calls the roll after the battle]
Colour Sergeant Bourne: "Hitch... Hitch, I saw you. You're alive."
Pte. Fred Hitch: "I am? Oh, thanks very much."

"I'll be your Huckleberry"

Go to Photoshop to crop the image if you want. Then save it. Then hit browse on the edit profile. Select the image.

If you've done that it may be that it is too big. Check its limits against the Avatar's max size.

It says that the image can't be bigger than 120 pixels and I've shrunk my photo to that size and saved it. When I try and download it as my Avatar my picture ends up looking like a long rectangle with image properties listed and you have to hit on a button to download the image so you can see my picture. No clue what I'm doing wrong...

I find that a 250x250 image works best.

Try uploading it to imageshack first. If you are having trouble with sizing the image and you don't have photoshop, try picresize.

What type of file are you saving it as? You should convert it to something basic like a jpeg and you should not have an issue. Once you do that if you're still having an issue, please attach the file to a post in this thread and we can take a look at it.

If you are using Paint in windows, that can save corrupt files that are not recognised properly (due to a non-standard format), and that will the result that you describe. As mentioned elsewhere, try an online photo editing website first to do the resizing/adjustments and then upload the resulting file from there.

Ive found photobucket does a fine job of making pictures just the right size for avatars. Give that a go, its as easy as uploading them and then saving the thumbnail of your picture instead of the actual picture. Presto, avatar picture
