They are easily outdone by other units in the codex. Like kanz shoota boyz and above all else LOOTAS. That is assuming your going for ranged firepower, close combat however... If you are wanting anti MEQ then a looted boomgun does better.

Sure they could kill off a terminator squad if they're lucky, but dear Mork I think Grots are more useful than them

They cost 5 points more than nobz and get more than just a 4+ save for those points. Sure they use up a HS slot, but they are fun! Though to make them effective you have to pay 5-10 points to get their guns to be useful, but they are enormously fluffy and fun. I would say take them, but for a cometition, leave them home for boomwagons instead.

Flash gits can do about everything any other unit in the codex can do, just slightly worse, but you pay the price for all-round experts.
You get a shoota with more range, but less shots/points.
You get a deff gun with (maybe) better AP, but less range and strength
You get a nob, but without any close combat upgrade.
You pay the price for all three.
I also fail to see what's fun about a unit that massively under performs half the time. Except "everything is better with pirates", of course.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Flash Gits are the ranged equivalent of the Nob Squad. They have terribly destructive potential. There are two issues here, however: High price, and difficulty in reaching that potential. The low BS of the Gits is arguably their largest downfall, outside of being found within the Heavy Support section. Their random AP is also an issue, since you never know what will be best to shoot at. You could shoot at marines, and get AP4-6. You could shoot at Imperial Guard and get AP 1-3.
They aren't a bad unit in themselves, but their high cost versus usual Orky BaS, and Heavy Support contention, is what sees them as criticised as they are.

The big problem is their point cost seems to have been decided in a vacuum. On paper it looks like a nice unit. Its basically a nob squad with heavy armor and an upgraded gun that basically is free. However, once you start taking into account the fact it takes up a heavy support slot, removes your ability to wound allocate, no transport options, and now power weapons for when you DO charge or get charge, they are a terrible unit.
To much randomness to be effective to boot. Terrible ork ballistic skill combined with the high chance that they would be no better off shooting with shootaz at the units they should be hunting (heavy infantry) means that they're to unreliable to count on. At least a loota is a 15 point autocannon. A flash git is a 25 point highly unreliable, worse stat, plasma gun.
