I was noodling around on one of the (many) 40k wikis, when I noted that, apparently, in the fluff, some of the various named Crisis Suit loadouts actually refer to mixed groups of crisis suits: a leader with a plasma rifle and missile pod, a veteran with missile pod and fusion blaster, and a veteran with flamer and burst cannon, for example (I don't know if that's actually one of them - I just pulled it out of my butt). I have always assumed that I'm better off fielding my crisis suits in teams with identical loadouts to reduce the degree to which the team will lose utility as it loses members, but now I'm wondering - is it ever a good idea to take a mixed loadout? What do you think?

My P&M blog - in which I chronicle the transformation of a battered windfall of models into an awesome addition to my Blood Angels force (hopefully) - can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/431820.page.

The main reason to differentiate their load outs is wound allocation, is it not?

Yeah, you mix it up of you're a WAAC type that likes to play wound allocation games, otherwise you run heterogenous squads for the reason you listed. Especially because, as in your example, you want to be playing at different ranges with different suits.

Also, because its pretty common consensus that 6th edition will be the end of the current wound allocation system, to be replaced by something less open to abuse (such as the proposed wound consolidation from the possible leaked 6th edition doc)

Wound allocation is one reason but this can also be done a number of ways. I have fielded Crisis Suits both way, mainly it depends on what you plan to use them for. TL Missiles for vehicles do the whole team the same but if missile launders and burst guns throw in the odd plasma gun to give the team that added firepower. Mostly its just personal choice.

IMO, if you're going for burst cannons you should be taking stealth suits. They are cheaper and you can get twice as many for the same number of points, plus they are more effective at that range because of their stealth generators.
