I picked up the Dark Angels codex recently, and I'm hoping for some advice in my future modeling/purchasing. I'm planning on running Deathwing (I already have Space Wolves) using Space Wolf Terminator models, and hopefully a converted Logan Grimnar model as Belial. But I've had a few concerns with the army, and I figured I'd ask Dakka about it.

First off, what's the best loadout for Terminator units? I've got around 20 (models) so far, so 4 units in total. I've been hearing that the best way to run them is combined, so I've got one squad modeled up with 2 claws, 2 hammer/shields, and a Sergeant with a chainfist to deal with any pesky AV14, with one guy hanging onto a Cyclone Missile Launcher. I know that this isn't supposed to be a really shooty army, but I'm slightly concerned with only having 4 shots per squad at any given time - 2 storm bolter shots and 2 missile shots.

Second, what else should realistically go into the army? I'd likely be playing games around 1500-2000 with my gaming group, and it just seems like a poor army to run nothing but one type of unit. Not to mention the fact that with nothing but Cyclone Missile Launchers and storm bolters for guns, the army has literally no reliable way to deal with AV14 at range. What else could go in? Land Speeders? Melta-toting bikes? Dreadnoughts? Or is the best solution to just bite the bullet and run all Terminators, dealing with AV14 in close combat?

I'd appreciate any advice. I do intend to run it purely Deathwing, since I've already got a (in my mind) superior Space Wolves codex to run other army types. I just dislike the points costs and rules for Loganwing in the Space Wolves codex. (63 points for a TH/SS seems a bit absurd )

Terminators can be taken anyway really. Tool them for things you need.

2 claw/3 SS&TT, with CMC for your basic configuration

3 claw/2 SS&TT with AC or HF for hordes

Along with various stormbolter/CF (never take standard powerfists if you can) squads for some ranged.

Dreads go well with it, along with some attack bikes.

I don't play Dark Angels but one of my good friends does; if you have the points get an Apothecary in a unit with Storm Shields. FNP on Terminators is ridiculous!

Are you sure your not thinking of Blood Angels?

TheCyben: Seriously though, I'm not advocating GW to model any Boosh characters. If they have to pick one, it would have to be Tony Harrisson... but that would be an outrage.

Belial allows one squad of terminators to take a banner and apothecary.

Which brings up another question, is the banner worth it for (I think) 25 points? I mean, in a normal army, I'd say sure, things within 12" can reroll morale, but in an all-Deathwing army, everything on the board is fearless. Is it worthwhile for one squad to have +1 attack per guy for that price, considering that the primary use of it is pointless?

So here's another question, is it worthwhile to take every squad exactly the same (like I did, with 2 claw, 2 TH/SS, 1 storm bolter/chain fist) or kit them out for different purposes? One thing I did notice is that even against a blob of Orks, the Terminators just slowly whittled it down because of that 2+ armor save, with 2 3++ saves in there to soak up power klaw attacks.

That's why you take the apothecary.

Tyranids 3000 points
Dark Angels 500 points
