So, my books are currently in the mailroom in my town awaiting delivery to my house.
Based on army builder, the sale of items at my local store, and my love of people jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, I picked up the following.
1 XB18 box of parachute rifle company (the recent one), 1 blister platoon of parachute machine guns, 1 parachute rifle field artillery box (4 guns and a command section), and 1 box of Parachute rifle antitank (the discontinued one with 4 guns, and command).
Based on the boxes I can do both midwar and late war, however, it appears late war seems to be the main thing as per the turning tide book (been looking at a buddy's until tomorrow when i get mine in mail, along with my hardcover v3 rules).
I used my army builder and got a list up to about 1100-1200 points, however, im not entirely sure how to organize these well.
I purchased the US paras for three reasons:
1. I dont care for an army that will kill my wallet, and didn't want to have a GIANT pile to paint.
2. I prefer infantry, especially elite infantry... its just more motivating and characterful to me, which keeps me painting.
3. I wanted a US force... later I may start a german force, but I wanted to start with something I knew I would complete as a project before moving into more expensive forces, tank forces, or other areas.
I'd really appreciate and suggestions, comments, or pointers you all could give on making this force complete/better and also, any advice you could give for starting a german force that would fit into the eastern or western front (and yes i plan on buying the earth and steel and grey wolf compilations.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |

82nd or 101st USAB? There are differences in the TT army book.
Looking at the boxsets, either 82nd or 101st, with what your ordered comes out to:
Parachute Rifle
*Parachute Rifle HQ*
- 1x CinC Carbine, 1x 2iC Carbine
- 3x Bazooka
*Combat Platoons*
Parachute Rifle Platoon,1st Platoon
- 1x Command Rifle/MG, 9x Rifle/MG, 1x M2 60mm Mortar, 1x Bazooka
Parachute Rifle Platoon, 2nd Pl
- 1x Command Rifle/MG, 9x Rifle/MG, 1x M2 60mm Mortar, 1x Bazooka
*Weapons Platoons*
Parachute Machine-gun Platoon
- 1x Command Carbine, 8x M1919 LMG
- 2x Bazooka (only if 8x LMG)
*Support Platoons*
Glider Anti-tank Platoon
- 1x Command Carbine, 3x M3 57mm
- 3x Bazooka (only if 3x 57mm)
This was all I could find WRT any AT gun platoons. Bear in mind, I am using an excel armylist generator, as my book is downstairs in the basement.
Parachute Field Artillery Platoon
- 1x Command Carbine, 1x Staff, 1x Observer Carbine, 4x M1A1 75mm pack howitzer
That's five platoons at 1260pts
How many more points are you looking to build onto this force? Recce and AA is a must, unless your opponent is only playing out of E&S for his Germans. And even then your can use AA against troops and vehicles. You have lots of bazookas in your force, but I would still try to obtain another. And that will depend on what AB Div you go with.
I went with the 5. SS for my Eastern Front force. I really like mixing the Panthers and infantry in as part of my combat platoons. I've always trained in a battlegroup setting, so I am happy to reflect that in my style of play.
Tanks, for Germans, are the cheapest way to cash wise. You generally don't get a lot of panzers/ panthers/ tigers, but the troops have good ratings, as well their vehicles are represented better than anything the allies had in terms of armour. Which was accurate.
