Hey guys! Just started playing Skyrim (its awesome!!) and I was wondering what the best race is?

I was thinking Nords but that's just because I like vikings(:

Dunmer, but then my default in most fantasy games is Dark Elf, looking like a Drow Dark Elf, equals sign me up. Hell almost got Lineage more than once just because of that.

Personal preference really. you like magic, go Aldmer, thieving go khajiit or dunmer, like combat go orsimer or nord.

Bretons arguably have the most useful racial.

But I decided to pick my favourite race instead and went for Wood Elf

I'd say anything with a passive resistance to magic. When it comes to making your uber gear, that passive defence will save you at least one enchant slot on an item that could be filled with something more useful.

Bretons can be okay, but since their 50% resistance is an active ability, not passive, it means you have to be more careful when going through mage dungeons, simply because after the one use per day, that's it until tomorrow (game time, of course).

Anyway, above all, i'd say Nord.

Why?

You said it yourself, you like Vikings, and that's as good of a reason as any; races in games follow the same guidelines as picking races for Warhammer, go with what you think is cool and what you will have fun using, not what is necessarily the best.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Khajiit, Imperial, and Nord in that order.

Imperial, Nord, Breton in that order. I like imperial for the paladin type charachter, and maybe for a rogue. The Nord is obviously the hand to hand and breton for magic. I just don't like the new look to the high elves or dark elves. The Wood Elves I liked much better in oblivion but they make fun stealth/magic charachters.

Orc hands down for warrior types anyways. If you want to piss out a gak ton of damage, and take a beating that would kill a giant, their Berserker rage just cant be beat. You can slay anything with a 2 handed hammer, and berserker rage in 3 hits or less.

Bah, I would love Orcs alot more if Berserk worked with magic. I really wanted to do an Ork Shaman (Warpaint with that leather armor that only has the cape), but it just isn't the same without that...

I absolutely HATE dual wielding in skyrim. Its just fething terrible. You can really only see in 3rd person view, as the weapons completely clutter your screen in 1st. And when your doing your uber power attack, you stop fething moving! Youre just standing there swinging like a madman in place. So the enemy just simply....steps back, and youve wasted fatigue hitting air.

Terrible, just terrible.

Yes!
I play an Argonian becuase they look fething awesome, and because I like to play a sort of outcast.
Second choice would be Dunmer, becuase they're also awesome and have a Destruction boost.
I can't stand Nords. They're everywhere, and everyone seems to play one.

And still if you do your standing power attack, you just stand in place. No other weapon attack (other then bows and magic) do you just stand there and swing wildly. You continue to move slightly forward.

Well, not completely true for everything. If you use dual daggers, you move forward, if ever so slightly.

And in most cases, the enemies still step backwards out of your way. Ive tried dual wielding a couple times, and I just wanted to jump off of the throat of the world instead of trying to get it to work.

Yeah. It still does suck. But if you absolutely have to power attack while moving forward, you can use one of your weapons, then power attack him with both when he's staggered.

I don't think dual-wielding is as useful with weapons bigger than a dagger, so if you want to use a sword, don't dual-wield. But for daggers, dual-wielding is awesome.

Can't stand the two-handed weapons. They take way too long to hit.

Even daggers, I dont see the point. If your using a dagger, your most likely a mage type, or an assassin. MAges use Magic the majority of the time, and if your an assassin, back stabbing is simply the only way to go

I'm a sort of half-mage, half-sneaky person, and when I run out of magicka, I just yol them and use flamey daggers.
It works very well.
