So, the avatar of menoth has an ability that makes it so models starting with in 8 inches of it can only advance towards it, i think it is called "gaze of menoth". This came up in a game last night. He used that ability, and i charged with a warjack, then i tried to use Pmganus' feat to make a free run away, but as we read it, the jack that had charged the avatar (and was obviously with in 8 inches) was still subject to gaze. We weren't sure how that worked, so we rolled off on it, and it was rolled that no, the jack as to stay there. Were we right?

Gaze of menoth says something along the line of models within 8" and LOS must advance towards this model. Any voluntary movement is an advance therefore your warjack is only able to advance towards the avatar with the feat movement.

One thing about the gaze of menoth. It's towards not directly towards. So what some people attempt is to circle (well, spiral) around the avatar. But you must end up closer to the avatar at every stage of the advance.

Can't do it.

So long as the wording of extra movement says advance,
they must advance towards the avatar under gaze.

Okay, thanks, now this is the other part, i have to walk towards it, but does that mean i just have to end my activation closer to it than i started? For instance, could I start my activation base to base with it, and then move into it's back arc keeping in contact with it's base? Thanks again

Every stage of your movement has to end closer. The problem here is that Warmachine's rulebook says that movement is done on a straight line. So in a casual game the Menoth player might allow you to state I'm moving in a spiral and ending it closer to you than I was but by the rules you should be moving a bit in a straight line, turning on the spot, moving a bit, etc. whilst always ending each part of the moving closer to the avatar.

And while in base contact you cannot physically move closer to the avatar so you can't move legally in that case.

Couldn't you change facing, which is technically movement?

Church: So it is a sword, It just happens to function like a key in very specific situations.
Caboose: Or it's a key all the time, and when you stick it in people, it unlocks their death.

I think you can turn on the spot, but canadianone was talking about going around the model whilst starting in base contact. There was a thread on the PP rules section about hyper-aggressive and being in base-to-base contact. It has similar wording to gaze but I can't remember the outcome. When I have a bit of time to search I'll find it.

Edit: Yep, you can turn on the spot. Here's the thread confirming that and answering a load of other questions:
