Just to make the US (or at least my homestate of Oklahoma) seem even crazier when it comes to an armed citizenry, I present this story of a man walking into the local Wal-Mart and attempting to steal an M4.

FROM STAFF REPORTS | Published: March 23, 2012 Oklahoman
Muskogee police responded to Wal-Mart in Shawnee Thursday night where a man had broken into a locked gun case. About 10:15 p.m., Everett Rowlands, 35, of Wagoner reportedly attemped to take and load an M-4 rifle, according to police, but the rifle had a gun lock. A Wal-Mart employee took the rifle from Rowlands, who was unable to load the weapon because of the locks. Rowlands then took a Mini-14 rifle fro the gun case and fled to a storeroom.

Employees assisted officers in evacuating the store, while officers searched for Rowlands. He was later arrested in connections with several charges, including grand larceny, reckless handling of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, obstructing an officer and two felony warrants for knowingly concealing and withholding stolen property. None of the firearms were operable because all were equipped with gunlocks.

I would like to give a special mention to the wonderful reporting by our local paper, considering that the M4 is a military assault rifle that can only be purchased under very special circumstances. So good job there .

Wal-Mart does sell AR-15s, which is a civilian version of the M16 which is related to the M4, so my guess is that the AR-15 is the rifle in question here. But now we know that if we are planing on robbing Wal-Mart during the Zombie attack we need to bring some tools to remove the gunlocks.
