Subject: Maybe write a message when you friend someone?

Usually when someone friends me I recognize them and normally press the friend button in return, if I like what they say. But sometimes people who I have never heard of friend me, and I have no idea why.
So my idea was, why not install a popup window or something where you can write a message to the person you are friending? A friendly line cant do much harm..... and might avoid some bafflement

Or you could just PM them.

yeah, but nobody does that. If there was a popup window asking you to write one, more people would....

Or forcing you to write one would be even better.
I believe there is occasionally problems with dodgy members adding people they don't know to gain leverage for scamming. This would also help stop that.

I dread getting PMs. Every time I see the little thingy that says I have a new PM, I think that it's going to be a warning from the Mods.

I think that if You want to have a friend on Dakka the minimum effort You can do is to write a PM, that gives the person an occasion to answer You if He/She doesn't want to accept that and You can still have a nice forum relationship with him/her (IMHO)

But if it forces you to write it out, it could stop scammers. Maybe even have a Friend Request denied button or something to curb it.

To write in a forum is the only think You can do to meet people, so I't looks pretty basic to me that You should write a PM when You try to get a new friend.
The button for the denial is a bit too harsh for me, wouldn't use It.

It's honestly just to stop scammers, so people don't just randomly friend you so they can get to you.

What do you mean "get to you"? And, what could someone possibly do to scam you by listing you as a friend?
