So as a modeling project i want to do a Chaos cult that has some space marine back up, or maybe even deamons. The only codex that really fits is Grey Knights (Go figure.) Now before you start going FOUL! The marines are not grey knights. Its just unfortuante that i have to use their codex.

Ideas for conversion.
Cortez will be a warlord, just not a space marine.
Death cult assassins will be mauraders from warriors of chaos.
Crusaders Im thinking about using chaos warriors, they look similer.
Warrior acyoltes will be catachans in blood stained clothes.
Vindicare assassin will be kit bashed from a cadians. Think the Blood Pack sniper from Sabbot Martyr.
Librarian will be a Tzeentch sorcerer.
Dreadknights will be deamon princes.
Of course any grey knight will be a chaos space marine with conversion.

So any comments, questions, or (hopefully not) complaints.

I had a thread like this a couple weeks back and the responses I got were overwhelmingly positive in terms of an army you can convert to your hearts content and have something truelly unique looking on the table. However at that stage I hadnt wanted to include any GK in the army purely for how different they are equipped to normal chaos marines.

One thing I would ask is if you have considered fluff justification for the radically different gear the GK run in comparison to Chaos space marines and justification for any/all of their special rules that you would be running.

The henchmen/coteaz/assasins are all really easy to justify and can create an amazing army both in terms of playability and with some of the net lists circling a fairly competitive Henchmen Army

Dreads... are dreads really and run nothing like Chaos princes, you might be better served running them as a less crazy Chaos Dred

Dreadknights however lend themselves way better to a prince/daemon engine

Oh and great sources of bitz I have found for traitors:

Flagellants
Zombies
Marauder heads (awesome for barabrian like models)
The armys from all of the above
And some of the new grypt ghouls from the VC range seem begging to be converted to mutants.

Good luck

Sounds good. Give it a go.

Not sure about your reservations. The Grey Knight Codex is far and away the best thing that ever happend to the dedicated hobbyists in 40K. It's ability to tweak, customize and build the most amazing armies is unsurpassed by just about anything and everything that has been published for 40K in the last 25 years. It's a unique piece of brilliance among a deluge of dull spam-codexes (Space Wolves, Dark Eldar, etc..) , and the more people embrace it to build unique and fascinating armies, the better.
