Hoping to Try and Start a 40k Army, mech and mounts seem to be the big thing at the moment but I dont like the idea of my dudes being stuck in boxes and wolves are pretty expensive...

so the start of my Wolves is at 1000 Points... C&C Please

Looks solid.

If it were my list, I would drop a Long fang squad, get the rune priest Chooser. Upgrade a wolf guard to a cyclone terminator and put him with the long fangs. Give the long fangs a razorback or rhino for some cover and tank shock power.

I think you would have enough points to do all of that... maybe not.

Don't think that's such a hot choice as you have to buy 5 WG to be able to upgrade one, so you have a complete dud sitting on a long fang squad.

I'd drop 1 man off of a drop pod sqaud as you need to get the rune priest in there too, the extra points can be spent on a chooser of the slain for the rune priest. You can then use the rest of the points on a wolf banner for the two gh squads that don't contain your rune priest. Those squads can then really bring the pain in cc.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

I favor Wolf Priests over Rune Priests in Drop Lists. I also tend to load up my hunters on the close combat goodies since they will likely be counter assaulted turn 1 or get to assault turn 2. Might as well make the most of the assault phases to come.

I also tend to go with Dreadnoughts in Pods rather than Long Fangs when I go Drop Podding. They have the fire power and (if dropped in the right spot) can use it very effectively from the get go. They also can participate in the general melee that starts by the end of turn 2 where as the Long Fangs get kind of stuck out in the cold. Also, since they arrive by pod as well that increase the number of pods I have which lets more of my army smash in on Turn 1.

Tau and Space Wolves since 5th Edition.
