I am starting to get rather interested in Chaos Space Marine armies and have decided to collect my own. I have just been given a unpainted Chaos Lord and Termiantor Squad. I obviously know this is not an army and I am looking to expand. I would love an army that deals a heavy blow to enemy vehicles. Could anyone advise on a army list for this?

What is the points range you are looking at.

Give one of your terminators a reaper autocannon and you can hurt most vehicles short of a Land Raider. I'l try and help more once I know what points value you are after.

basically, for a CSM army what you want:

2 Sorcerers/Deamon Princes with Lash of Submission
9 Obliterators
2 Squads of Plague Marines w/ Meltaguns, Powerfist in Rhino.
+ additional Plague Marines w/ Meltaguns, Powerfist in Rhino to fill in additional points.

Yes if you want to play a boring army with no imagination, that we've all seen a thousand times before, and buy a bunch of models that will be obsolete in a month or two.

Just wait for the new codex no one knows what's going to be good yet.

He's not going to win by playing the same old crap that everyone has seen 500 times already. Which, like I said, is about to become obsolete in any case. OP should just wait for the new codex. No one knows what will be good in it yet.

Without giving you your own list, I would recommend that you simply focus on running a mechanised army; this is effective in 5th edition and even more effective for Chaos - as they are predominantly short-ranged.
Heavy Support is usually your strongest FoC - or Troops - with Obliterators, Predators, Defilers and Vindicators being the strongest choices usually. Within troops it's hard to go wrong with Chaos Space Marine Squads (with 2 meltas or flamers), Plague Marines or Khorne Bezerkers.
For HQ a Sorcerer or Prince is usually the best choice, whilst Chosen and Terminators are solid elites choices. I'd recommend loading up on special weapons for these guys; combi-weapons for termies, meltas and flamers for Chosen.

That should hopefully give you a nudge in the right direction. Good luck.

Regarding your Lord and Termies, I'd advise running the lord as a sorcerer, giving your termies combi-weapons and 1-2 Powerfists/chainfists. You can then deepstrike your termies onto an icon quite nicely.

With the amount of mechanisation and psychic defences these days i am not convinced that lash sorcerers are still a good investment.

I think Lash is worse than it used to be, but I also think it's still a good investment; after-all you'll be de-mech'ing the enemy.

Everyone else will disagree with this....but I like Raptors. They perform well for me in most casual games, and even in most competitive games. Just because EVERYONE else has a mech army, doesn't mean you need one. In fact, I've had a lot of success with foot slogging my CSM because Lascannons become pretty much pointless, missile launchers are nice but not that great against marines in cover, Raptors can get into position quickly (and can deep strike not scattering if you have an icon nearby) and melta some vehicles. Plus the endless possibilities with Daemon Princes.

Agree with this. It's not dominant but it's still one of the best things in the book.

Since it's rumored that there is going to be a new Chaos Codex in the very near future (aka before the end of this year), I'd hold off of buying the "Chaos" codex for right now.

However, you can always get models and starting painting them so that when the new codex comes out, you can start playing.

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

I second the wait thing, paint what you got and just wait. Its what im doing.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Plague Marines and Berzerkers aren't getting any worse. They will always be staples.

Granted Oblits could go back to 0-1 since everyone seems to have 9 of them. GW wants to sell more heavy support models...

I'd like to see bloodletters and daemonettes back in the CSM codex though. I miss my rending or power sword wielding troops.

My experience shows that a Defiler works wonders for just about everything. for advice grab about 20 Chaos Marines with Rhinos, a squad of Berzerkers and Plague Marines each is always nice and if you can get rhinos for them that is good. For taking out vehicles what was mentioned by others is good but one thing I'm planning on trying is a Havoc squad with 4 missile launchers, a good mix of long range anti-tank and anti-infantry.

Could always just paint what you think is cool? New Codex or not, a themed army will always be the most pleasure to play against.

I.E. Death Guard = Few/no vehicles, lots of foot-slogging Plague Marines, Typhus, maybe some Nurgle Terminators. Possibly obliterators.

But I don't build armies to be competitive.

I'm enjoying the use of 4x special weapon havocs in a rhino. Always useful in most situations.

Expect my posts to have a bazillion edits. I miss out letters, words, sometimes even entire sentences in my points and posts.

But taking up a vital HS slot. Couldn't you just use chosen?

I am realy sorry for not posting any replies (broke my computer) but I think I will be using a more vehicle based army within a 3000 point range. But thanks for your help in making me decide
