So after seeing every army on a table unpainted at my FLGS, I decided to start painting up my necrons!

BE WARNED: I'm aware that I suck and it doesn't look very good. I have little to no technique and honestly, no good local resource that I know of to help me not suck.

Yes, my camera sucks, and yes, there is a bunch of crap (including a greater demon of kitty-kat-khorne) in the background, sorry in advance.

C&C welcome, please don't try to blast me too bad.

Egads, I didn't even notice the cat until I scrolled back up and read the text (pictures always first!). The monolith looks great though! I don't know why you would think otherwise.

I'll admit I'm selling myself a bit short... on close inspection you can see quite a few brush strokes I have no idea how to clean up and no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the paint to go down nice and smooth to conceal said brush strokes.

The crystal is a bit cloudy (fudged up with the glue holding it together) but I don't think I can paint over it/how to make it look good.

Thanks for the comments!

Love the look, and I see some nice OSL,

My recommendation is to weather this beast.

take a bit of sponge and dab a light brown on the edges of the red parts that would be most damaged (edges and corners), then dab within the brown areas you made with a silver. Comes out similar to this rhino of mine. Also, should add that before you apply the paint with a sponge get most of the paint off on a paper towel before you put it on your mini. Doing this should be able to "mask" the brushstrokes and rather than having it look like bad layering, it will add to the weathered look.

Gives it a sand weathered kind of look

Nicely done I do like the shields, although I think I would have used some of the silver or red from the mono, rather than being completely green.

I tried coloring from the orange on the shield and didn't like it... Too much of the color in one area. It is silver but is a bit overdone on the osl... Doesn't look that bad in person but ill tone it down anyway.

That cat is so life like! Amazing job painting the fur. The eyes really top it off.

The monolith is quite nice, and you were way too hard on yourself in your original assessment. That is a perfectly serviceable tabletop job, in fact, better than most tabletop jobs out there. Good work.

Nothing wrong with that bud, it's a nicely painted lith in an original colour scheme. The cat scares me tho!
