A few hours ago, I began to wonder about the AOBR starter kit, and when a new one is going to come out. After a few minutes of thinking, I decided that GW is probably going to have this in another starter kit-
- A wonderfully spamtastic army, probably IG since Timmies and Orks were already used. If SM is used again, maybe Tau, since it seems like its between tons of soldiers and a small elite.
- An easy, elite army for beginners to use, most likely SM if IG is not used. Chaos is a likely choice, but GW might aim for something more kid-friendly so they won't have to deal with hordes of angry parents . Tau empire might be used, but I ruled out Eldar since they require some strategy and GW might decide they aren't that noob-friendly.
What do you guys think?

I would like to see something besides SM but lets be honest with ourselves......GW wouldn't THINK of releasing it without em. I'll honestly be surprised if it's not Ultramarines. I would love to see Chaos in there too though, but I feel like a better choice would be Necrons. It would help introduce a non SM army to new players, and Necrons are a pretty easy army to play, as many of their units are MEQs and they keep getting back up. Plus there is some fluff behind that matchup too.

GW will always us space marines, Ultra marines being their poster boy. As far as who the new starter kit would be, SM of some sort (vanilla) and I would guess Choas.

The problem is that apparently, according to some players, necrons are "boring". I looked at their units and I wasn't surprised, with the same soldiers with little to some difference, nothing totally unique unless you count the C'tans (COME AT ME NECRON FANS). Then again, thats been the case of the space marines for years, but they have the benefit of a larger selection and a larger backstory. Of course, new players are going to be like "HOLY feth NECRONS CAN RESPAWN! WHERE DO I SIGN?"

^ that last sentence is my primary reason for suggesting them. But I can understand that blandness of the Crons.

The current rumors point to Dark Angels in the new starter set, and the new paint set more or less confirms this. The other half is said to be Chaos, with some kind of cultist/non-Marine presence in their ranks.

My best bet its the DA and probably their nemesis chaos mwahahaha (as if all space marines dont hate chaos well except CF they absolutely hate orks). Also, about time the DA get a foundation colour too ive been doing DA paint jobs and the green on rhinos are a frick to paint on.

I would be thrilled if a new starter came out that was IG and Nids. I don't/won't own either, but a little variety would be nice.

But yeah, if I was betting, DA and CSM looks like the next starter.

Core sets for 40k will ALWAYS contain Space Marines of some flavour simply because;
a) Space Marines are GW's brainchild and no one else came out with anything like them before GW did. Sure we had comic book super heroes and Star Wars imperial storm troopers, but GW created the 'mega-ultra-super-soldier'. It's what the company is best known for, so of corse they're going to promote the crap out of it!

b) Space Marines = $$$. Nothing else in the entire 40k/fantasy model lines sells like marines do.

I'm glad to finally see an end to the 10 or so years of ultrasmurfs though! Dark Angels have never been a featured core set army, and it's about damn time the original Legion got it's time in the limelight!

Because the last 5 have? What trailblazing pattern-seeking skills you have. Clearly a detective.

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?

Yah, given the starters painting kit contains Dark Angels, seems like they are a lock.

Chaos would be a good choice IMO for the opposing army for a number of reasons, but perhaps none more so than, a) they have some pretty impressive models, and b) the popularity of the Horus Heresey BL novels.

The popularity of said books would likely be lost on new players. DA and Chaos have a great thematic relationship, and if Chaos is made truly distinctive with the next codex it could get away without being a mirror match.

...but not on the GW staff who would push the novels on all the new players.
