This thread is for telling ghost stories. This is not a thread about whether ghosts exist. Please stay on-topic as per Rule Number Two. Thanks ~Manchu Hey guys, there are trying times and there are so many mysterious things in this world. So, I figured why have a little fun and tell some ghost stories, I'm sure there are many people who have had some experiences. The vary first job I had was at this bar, and we had let the final stragglers out for the time. I was at the bar washing the beer chest, my head is down and out of the top of my eyes I see something walk in front of me. I figured it was either one of the dances, a member of security or one of the managers. so I look up, standing here was a figure. This thing was black and I mean black, blacker than a night in the woods black, blacker that a plastic bag black. I thought who's shadow is that? but this wasn't against the wall, it was standing in the middle of the stage. It was the perfect shape of a man, I could make out every ridge and crevice on his face. And this thing was standing there looking at me as if to say, WTF are you looking at? as the it turned and walked off the stage and disappeared behind the stage. I haven't viewed the spiritual world the same ever since.

Secret Force Behind the Rise of the Tau
USA
|
When my dad was stationed at a US base in the UK in the mid-90's we rented a stable turned house in a town called Pilton.
Now according to my mom, she saw a white lady several times over the three years we lived there. One time she said she woke up to weird rythmic creaking sounds and followed them into my sisters room and saw her looking down at my sister from the bed said. As we can guess she was pretty freaked out after that.
No one else in the family ever had any trouble with the ghost though.

I remember years ago, the wife and I were house sitting my her parents, so we were enjoying a house for a solid week. (we lived in a trailer at the time) A few days went on and it was getting closer to bed time, and we deiced to watch some TV in bed, so the wife grabs the baby, and I make sure the doors were locked and all the lights were out. I turned off the hallway light, and just as I turned around to go get the living room light, I saw some thing standing there in the middle of the room, and then it was just gone. I saw it long enough to know there was something there, but then nothing. The living room was a huge open room, so obviously, there wasnt anything in the middle to play a trick on my brain, you know, thinking an exercise machine was a yetti or something. Totally freaked me out, and to this day I can clearly remember what it looked like, well its face anyways. It looked like a slightly out of focus picture, the skin was a pale purplish color, and I could see the shadows under its eyes and such, you know the things that show facial features, but that was about all I could see.
Pretty fething crazy. We told her parents, and then they started sharing their weird stories of things that they saw or heard. So it just kindda added to it

It was a dark and stormy night, the candles were flickering in their sconces..... well, maybe not quite but I do have 2 stories that I can recount to you.
I was about 9 years old at the time and my sister was 6, I was lying in bed when I had this amazing urge to open my eyes and when I did and glanced at my doorway I saw a dark silohuette of my mum's mum waving to me leaning against the door, I couldn't make out features but I distinctly remember knowing it was her and she was waving goodbye, I got out of bed to see her and she was gone, when i walked out into the hallway to look for her I saw my little sister come out of her bedroom and say to me 'did you just see nan? is she here?' my sister and i then snuck upstairs to see my parents and found them in the lounge crying as not 5 minutes earlier they had had a call from the hospital saying she had passed on! strange but true!
my other ghostly story isn't quite as freaky but again thankfully had someone else to witness the phenomenon, in the same house where I saw my nan I seemed to always have a feeling or security in my bedroom and for a couple of years I felt a large black dog standing near the bed, he then jumped onto the bottom of my bed and turned around several times before lying down on my legs, now while this might not be amazingly scary, the weird part was i could feel his weight and couldn't move my legs when he was lying on them and the other freaky part was my mother came into my room and turned the lights on numerous times over the years and each time when this dog was with me, there would actually be a roughed up circle of flat bed where he turned around and it was as if a large dog had been sleeping there moments before! I kid you not! and it would have been impossible for me to do it myself either in sleep or awake!
when I was 10 we moved and haven't had any other experiences to date.

I live in York, one of the most haunted cities in the world. We have some real history right under out feet, literally, if you try and build anything within the city wall's (yep, medieval city walls) the archaeologists are on site after day one stopping work to investigate the Roman city you just uncovered.
The best Ghosts story I have heard and one I like to believe is real was from a window cleaner who was up a ladder at Kings Square in the city, He looked over his shoulder to see a unit of Roman solders walking down the street. However they were only visible from the knee up. As the old Roman road was a foot below our current street level.

Here's mine:
I was taking my dog out for a walk round some woods near my house. It was a walk I had done hundreds of times on my own, and have done a fair few since. It was an ordinary day, clouded over as per usual in Lochaber. I was walking with the dog off the lead just in front of me through the woods, just before a point where we normally stop to play fetch, when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. Thinking it was a deer, I put the dog on the leash, and turned to have a look. What I saw was definately not a deer. It was human-shaped, definately bipedal, and was a dark green. When I turned to face it it swiftly moved behind a raised piece of ground that used to be an old cart road through the woods. Thinking it might be someone afraid of the dog I called out, but there was no reply. I walked with the dog towards where it had been, but he started dragging at the leash and trying to pull away, so I went back to the path and tied him to a tree. I went to investigate myself, and there was nothing, no sign of anything passing through, and there wasn't enought thime for someone to move so far away that they couldn't be seen.
I finished the walk, slightly freaked out and went home. I spoke to my mum about it, and took her to the spot where it happened and we tried to figure out what happened. We couldn't explain it. I didn't tell anyone else, as I knew I'd probably be mocked and my mother has told me that she told noone else either.
Now the weird bit. The next weekend my brother was home from uni and took the dog out on the same walk, oblivious to what had happened to me. Exactly the same thing happened to him, at exactly the same place. He did the same as me and told my mum, and she told me. We compared notes, and they were to similar to be coincidence. We were both highly sceptical of ghosts before, but now we aren't so sure.

Good God, I have so many...grab a beer and take a seat, this'll be a while. I was in my first year of college and got a job as a building supervisor for the Student Life building-had the gym, theater, bowling alley, mail room, dance hall, etc. I had to lock it up and kick everyone out at 10pm 3 nights a week. Every once in a while, after shutting off the lights, I'd be able to feel eyes on the back of my head-not friendly eyes. My mind told me the guy from Jeepers Creepers was behind me. I never saw anything, just felt it. My other coworkers, closing on other nights reported the same feelings of terror when closing up. And I'm talking mostly jocks as my coworkers, not nerdy gamer guys like me. Okay, first one was boring-no ghost. Let's move on, shall we? Same college, my buddies and I started working a volunteer pizza making job to help out the college club building. We probably made about 12 dozen wings and 20 pizzas every Friday and Saturday night, and worked until 4am for free. One night, my buddy who was in charge told me he needed a hand with grabbing some supplies from the basement-we took the elevator down to the basement floor with a cart, I stepped out, and promptly fell over. Mind you, I have never had vertigo from an elevator in my life, until this day. I asked him "what the hell was that?" The response: "Oh, you felt it too, huh?" Then he told me that he took another of our friends down, a friend who grew up in NYC, had been arrested and had never been afraid in his adult life and this guy was terrified and ready to bolt. Then, he told me why he took both of us down-he refused to go downstairs by himself-he had done it a week before, and when he got downstairs he saw a woman in a white chef's outfit in the corner, turned away, swaying. He didn't recognize her from behind, called out to see if she needed help with anything, she didn't respond and he moved closer. She then turned around, hissed at him, her face contorted like an animal's and he raced upstairs. Nobody else saw her-she disappeared without a trace, and she couldn't be ID'd by the description. Story three: my stepbrother is now in his first year of college, and snuck onto a closed down military portion of his campus. It was rumored to be haunted, as it had been used as a torture facility in the past. He and his friends started snapping random pictures while they were there, and he took one picture of a hallway that was completely empty when he went through it-he turned around, snapped the pic, and moved on. When he got back to his dorm, he looked at the pictures-a very obvious human shape was in the hall that had previously been empty-it was a black shadow, with the form of a man, but no detail. I have actually seen the picture, and showed it around. Most people were skeptical when I told them the story, but as soon as they saw the picture, they agreed it was definitely a ghost. Even the doubters had no words to disagree after they saw it. Okay, I'm done with my book.

No, they are small like tomatos. They look solid even though they have streaks as if its made out of smoke.
They are blue and the glow is faint and doesn't have any patterns like those.
The solidness and texture looks like this. but there is a trail following behind like blue glowing smoke
NSFW maybe

I dont believe in photo orbs either, I took bunch of photo 2 years ago at Banff national Park's water fall, and people were like OMG ORBS AND GHOSTS EVERYWHERE.
Then I was like yes.... so many because people jumped off the cliff here right...? (makes eerie ghost sounds )

In a way I agree, with the advancement of the digital camera you do have many instances of the camera throwing natural or "false" orbs such as dust, humidity, snowflakes, pollen, etc. And with orbs I put way more stock in video of the anomaly than I do with stills because you can watch the object behave. And before anyone accepts any evidence to the paranormal you should try to debunk it yourself.
Usually they can debunk 99% of the pictures themselves.
disturbed dust on video usually acts with a snow flurry quality. and in stills usually exists in massive "colonies", and are opaque.
Insects in video fly in distinct lines and can be seen entering from the edge of a frame and leaving at the edge of a frame. In photographs insects are vary well defined.
Is that an angel? or a moth?
Real orbs in video tend to enter mid frame and leave mid frame. in stills orbs are brilliant lights and near perfect spheres. What will lend more credibility is if the object has a trail which means the object was traveling at extreme speed at the time of the exposure.

Ya pretty much, taking pics of orbs at a waterfall is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. With all the water particles in the air, you'll have to comb over those photos for days. Automatically Appended Next Post: Anyway, we're getting off topic.

Not particularly a ghost story anymore, but it used to be for me. I had several episodes in the course of about 2-3 weeks of waking up suddenly and being completely unable to move or speak. I would see and hear this sort of malevolent spirit rush at me while screaming. It would vanish as it got to within about a foot or so of my face and the sound would slowly die off over the next few seconds. After about 30 seconds or so I'd be able to move again. As you can imagine I was pretty well a wreck over it for a while. I did some research and came across sleep paralysis, which pretty much fits what I experianced to the letter. Haven't had any episodes since.

I have experienced something similar, and I think its definitely worth noting our brain seems to process WAY FASTER when we are asleep.
E.g one day my blanket knocked off a metal mini, which was sliding down the plastic tray I placed it on.
During the few seconds of it sliding off the tray and the sound it made, is enough for me to make up a dream about it been a GIANT SPIDER
hanging off the ceiling, hissing at me and about to jump on my face ( the hiss = the mini sliding down )
I jumped up, flailed my pillow blindly in the dark, realized it was pitch black so I couldnt have been able to see the spider aka should be a dream.
But given how much I hate spiders I spent the next half hour running around my room + the neighbor rooms searching for the spider....

I've had some similar things. Had a dream about a plane crashing into the house when someone upstairs had actually dropped a pile of dishes. Research has shown the brain is as active if not more so when we are sleeping than when we are awake. It's one of the few things I actually liked about the movie Inception was the attempt to recreate the differences in the flow of time between the waking world and our dreams, and the amplification of outside stimulation.

I have a story similar.
Me and my friends desecrated a cemetery in an act of teenage rebellion. We're drinking King Cobra, knocking over trash cans, flipping the headstone over, peeing on the statue of Jesus. and so on. we had waited a few weeks to start bragging about it. I was in the gas station talking about it and this Voodoo lady heard me. She said in an accent loaded with Ebonics, "child, you ought not done that, Samedi will getcha." (Baron Samedi: the Voodoo guardian of the dead and dying)
I go to bed one night, I'm lying there, then I see this form walk into the room. the best I can describe it is the generic hollow from "Bleach". What I thought was this is a dream, "alright let's see what you've got." Then it placed it's hand on my chest and I felt actual weight. "Holy F, it's real!" I screamed, swinging at nothing. When I came to my senses I saw my childhood cat curled up in a defensive stance.

Maelstrom808 wrote:Not particularly a ghost story anymore, but it used to be for me.
Yeah, happened to me twice, one time I swore that I was being strangled by a demonic entity... my neck was red and looked like something had squeezed it once I was able to move again and look in the mirror.

I have experienced the sleep paraylisis as well. Woke me right the hell up, it did.
But the scariest thing I ever heard was late one night at Antietam Battlefield. I was there participating in a living history weekend, our company was sleeping in the Dunker's church. I awoke to the sound of 45 guys snoring.

Sounds to me like you found a Leprichon, about how tall was it?
About 5'10". No Leprechaun gold for me! :(
