Hi all, I have recently purchased an arcade pad for my old megadrive and I went to try it out today and my sega wont play.
I made sure all the connections were ok and the frequency was right, the consol itself shows the red power light when you turn it on but not picture or sound plays.
Is this caused by my cartridges or is it my consol itself? (its brand new out of box, used once)
Any help you guys can give would be great, thanks.

I find that if you blow into the cartridge connections and the megadrive connections it helps a bit, solves my problems 99% of the time
That's all I got
Just out of interest and not seeing many threads like this, what you planning to play?

People say that the moisture from your breathe can wreck it but I've done it for years with the ninty 94 and they're fine
Good choices sir, fancy a bit of streets of rage myself now but I always end up playing NBA Jam TE, only in this game can you have 28 injuries on one player....

Sega Megadrive rocks!
I went a bit crazy and bought a load of games for it a few months ago and it's proudly set up on the main Telly.
The switcher did not work as it doesn't work on an AV channel as it's RF and I had to tune it in manually. The problem was that with the Megadrive tuned in I lost picture quality when I wanted to watch Sky.
I bought one on of these and I don't need to worry about this now.

Classics really are fantastic. Ive 2 NES toasters, an NES toploader (fantastic little machine, that ALWAYS works) SNES store demo version, original model Genesis and an Atari 2600 Vader version. They are great.
I work and repair on these older systems. The blowing trick works alot, just be sure to put it inside your shirt and blow through your shirt, it helps keeping the moisture out of your games. Your problem could range from easy to OH MY GOD ITS BROKE! but usually its not the real bad one. Id say you either need to clean the contacts in the system (qtips and some rubbing alcohol work rather well) as well as the contactson the games. If they are cloudy or dingy, it can cause them not to contact.
If not that, check your plugs, they can wiggle loose causing your problems. If none of those, try a different set of plugs, as they can go bad. If not that....well.... Id tell you to send it to me but shipping would be insnae, and you could just buy another system and a game by then

 Exactly!
Got lucky with picking mine up. Went to a bit car boot sale/garage sale and I got mine for a £5 with two controllers, NBA Jam TE, Super Street Fighter 2, Mega Games 2 (inc. Golden Axe), Batman, 6in1 Cart and Terminator vs. Robocop. Bargain of the Millenium me thinks

Nice
I patrol them quite regularly now and my megadrive collection is probably worth at least 3 times more than I paid for it

Why don't you just order the AV cables for it? (This is assuming it has some like the American version). I bought some for my Genisis about 2 years ago because the attena port on my TV was dead.
I'll provide a link to some for the Gensis 2 and 3 model.

I was in an EBgames once talking to a friend that worked there when this kid came in with a plastic bag with a pristine NES2 with all the hook ups and two controllers as well as several Dragon Quest games, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Zelda, all in the original boxes with manuals. The store wouldn't have paid more than $15 (it was something like $9 for the system and a buck for each game) for it all, but my friend told him he could get $20 and paid him out of his pocket and took the stuff out to his car. I always had mixed feelings about that.

Your friend may possibly have done the morally wrong thing but I can't help but be totally ecstatic for him at the same time

I would of told the kid he's got video game gold there but if he's trying to make some money to buy the newest 'shiny' game that that stuff he has isn't going to go to far money/trade in wise....then do what your friend did and pull out a $20 and offer it to him.
Just admit it your jealous that you didn't get it
Garage sales are a great place to pick up other peoples junk. I got a whole 40k SM army for $7dollars canadian at one. A PS1 with about 70 games for $20 dollars. Just remember to pick up whatever crap the misses wants and it's all good. =o]

If it was an adult I wouldn't care as they could and should know better, but this kid was probably 12-13 years old and had no clue what stuff he had there, just that it was old stuff and he wanted more up to date stuff. I'm not even sure he was old enough to trade games without a parent. It was pretty close to taking candy from a baby.

That is why I would explain what 'Video Game Gold' is to him. That he would get more hours of enjoyment out of these games then any new game he would buy, but if he just wanted the 'newhotnes' so he could play online with his friends... then out comes Mr Money. Hell if the deal was good enough maybe buy him the game he wanted in exchange for the stuff he wanted to sell to EB.
Totally agree with you about the adult....sucks to be you buddy.

Ah. Well, aslong as it gets the job done is all that matters.
I was confused a bit 'cause I'd never heard of a "scart" port before.
