Hi All

Firstly I must admit i'm not a big WW2 buff, but I am thinking of starting FoW as it is a system I think I can get my Dad into.

My father is a huge WW2 fan, constantly reading boks on the subject, and a former wargamer. he's recently retired and got a lot more time on his hands and I think he would be intersted in getting back into gaming.

FoW stuck out as it is the most famous WW2 game and if I take it up as well I would want to be able to get a game with some one else as well.

So few questions, first cost. What are the essentials for starting FoW and what sort of price ticket are we talking about?

I've been on the website but couldn't see anything obvious, it all very well knowing a Panzer platoon is £30 but how many of them do you need and how many of those books are essential?

are the books similar to GW codex or are they more like army lists scenarios for a certain theatre and time frame?

I saw an average game is 1500 points but waht does that mean?

Does anyone know if they are planning to do a new starter set for the third edition?

The essentials are the rulebook and the book with the army lists you are using. You can get the V3 book bundle: http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=3138, which has the rules and book of lists for Late-War starter armies for the Germans, Soviets, British, and Americans; and also a hobby advice book. You can also peruse the army lists from the forces book for free here: http://easyarmy.com/ (go to "New Companies" and then select in the "by Source" field "Flames of War V3 Forces")

The answer to the price is it depends. It depends on what type of army you are playing (ex: a Solviet infantry horde will cost a lot more than an SS Tank Division) and where you buy the miniatures from (you can get similar miniatures to BFs a lot cheaper from other manufacturers, ex: http://theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/ )

Only the rules book and the book with the list you are playing are needed.

The books are set up for army lists in a certain time frame, with lists for all participating nationalities included.

Each unit has a point value associated with it.

They are, but we are not sure when it is coming out.
