Hey i'm going to Pax East this year and it's too late to make a costume, so i thought i would just bring something really cool. But i don't know how to build any of these things so any help would be great. Just post any links or any tutorials on how to build a chainsword, bolter, or bolt pistol. Thanks King of the elves

Id love to see someone make one in realistic proportions, not "heroic".

Bolt gun/pistols are .75 caliber (19mm or 3/4 inch) bore size. Id be interested to see the size of one based off a barrel of that size.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

Airsoft Desert Eagle (spring powered), some plasticard, and some schematics.

I guarantee you that I'm not really as smart as the test says:

Well, I never did WH40K props, but with my experience, the simplest wat to achieve a non-functional chainsword would be this (don't expect pro-looking).:

1. Meassure and make a plasticard base (Fig 1), I'd recommend 1mm thick plasticard as the minimum, and no thicker than 2mm. Mind that you need to make it broad, considering you will cut the blade's teeth there.

2. Cut and paste 2 pieces of MDF on each side of the plasticard (Fig 2). I'd recommend 5mm thick MDF on each side.

3. Use polyestirene to create the bulk of the mechanisms (Fig 3). Glue it straight to the MDF, and if you want use little nails. When done, cover all the polyestirene with old newspapers using watered down PVA glue (2 parts glue, 1 part water). Put at least 3 layers of paper, allowing teach oe of hem to dry well before applying the other. Make sure all the polyestirene is covered, it's important for next step.

4. Coat the MDF and polyestirene wth Polyester claw. This is what it's used ta fill car's exteriors when you can't get them back to shape with the hammer, before painting.

Do this on a ventilated area, use gloves or be carefull here.

5. Sand down the polyester putty to create a smooth surface that will have a metallic texture.

Again, in a ventilated area, and if possible, use a mask

6. Now, time to cut the teeth on the excess plasticard (Fig 4)

5. With epoxy putty (I think you call it "grey stuff" there) make the handle around the MDF/plasticard tang, and wrap it in tennis racket handle strip.

Now, add all the extra details you want, may use tips from previous steps, and you're ready to prime and paint it.

I hope this is of use.
