Just to verify, models with a Lance/Spear + HW + Shield can claim a parry save as long as they didn't charge, correct?

No, because you MUST use the lance / spear and using any thing other than HW + Shield means you DONT get a parry save

Actually if you didn't charge you do use the HW, still no parry tho as mounted models can't do that

Erm, no. That's not what the Lance and Spear rules say.

Derp. Nevermind.

I love how they throw in "nor can it be used by mounted models" almost as an afterthought after talking about Frenzy.

Thanks.

My question kind of relates to this and it is if you have a shield and a flail do you get to use the shield in the second round of combat or are you stuck with the flail?

Flail is different than lances and spears.

Flails give +2 strength during the first round of combat. Models continue to use the flail in subsequent rounds, whereas with lances and spears models switch to a hand weapon.

Erm, spears are special weapons, and the rules say you must always use special weapons

Both lance and spear (mounted) state – In subsequent turns (or if the wielder did not charge) the model uses its hand weapon, in annoying italic text (pg. 90 and 91).

Reread the OP post - NO mention of mounted only. So the statement about spears (on foot) still stands.

I think the OP just overrode your statement nosferatu. He says Lance/Spear and more importantly as long as they didnt charge.

Fair confusion as for spears on foot it still matters who charges

Except models on foot can't have lances.

It's cool tho, I understand you may not have a rulebook immediately at hand. After all, it's not really that important of a rule, mounted models can't parry anyway.

You made a blanket statement about lances AND spears, and that statement is not correct unless you add "mounted only" to it.

Ok, so lets say the model is on foot and has a spear, HW, and shield. If the model ever uses the spear, then no parry save is allowed. Think that's pretty cut and dry.

However, if he charges, can he use the spear?

If the model does not charge and is himself charged, does he have to use the spear or can he decide to use his HW instead, allowing for a parry save?

If it's a second round of combat, does he still have to use the spear or can he use the HW instead, allowing for a parry save?

nosferatu answered this in the second post.

You MUST use the Special Weapon if you have one. Even when charging, the Spearmen must use their Spears.

They may only use their Hand Weapon if their spear is destroyed/lost for some reason.

I think everyone except you realised it was implied by the use of Lance/Spears in combination.

This confirms the OP's intent. In typical form, trolling.

In any case.... the answer to all of the above is "No, you don't get a parry".

He was not trolling. He made an honest mistake.

How does a weapon get destroyed? I know that there is some gear that can destroy magical weapons, but what about mundane weapons?

I believe the Dwarf Anvil character can break mundane weapons and armor.

I think it was mostly an addition to cover any possable future instance of this happening. Maybe Vaul's Unmaking will get changed in the HE update.

Its basically GW covering their rears in case of future changes(or special player made rules)

Kinda weird since they barely bother to cover the rules they already have problems with

They are doing it more and more.

If you ignore all the old rules, GW is doing an excellent job lately of covering the possabilities(aside from constantly refusing to make competitive concessions)
