So, I go through the exercise of rereading the rule book every quarter or so just to make sure that my at home and FLGS are playing everything correctly and I've hit a snag. I play Orks and don't typically play with large or small blast template weapons. However, I'm interested in running a looted wagon or two with a boom gun. As a result, I need to really refresh on the large template/ordenance rules. Here is my question....

I can't seem to find the rule in the rule book that outlines the strength of a hit under the large blast template. What page or pages is that on?

I've been in games and watched battle reports that had players halving the strength of the weapon if the models involved were only under the template and not covered by the center dot.....etc. This seems odd and I just to read it to understand it. Anyone know the page numbers and is this even correct or is it some occus poccus house rule that my friends are playing?

Thanks,

The exact centre of the blast has no effect on the strength of the blast against Infantry.

For vehicles if the centre of the blast marker is NOT over the hull then the strength of the shot is halved.

Anyone under the template (even partially) takes a full strength hit. These hits can be reallocated across the unit as normal though.

I believe it is different for vehicle though. Not near my rulebook at the mo but IIRC you'll need page 60

This is correct.

I think your thinking about fantasy where the center hole is stronger than the blast itself. In 40k the hole only matters for vehicle hits and it never goes up in strength, only down if the hole misses the vehicle.

There are a few exceptions (this wouldn't be 40k if there weren't exceptions), but those are spelled out in the weapon's specific rules. (For example: a Bzzzap result on SAG, and I remember another gun that was higher S in the center, but that may be long outdated)

Also keep in mind the results from hitting a vehicle--with ordinance weapons, you roll two dice and pick the highest result when seeing if you penetrate. Str 8 +2d6, pick the highest to penetrate.
