Warlord should be on a litter instead, so he cannot be sniped by cannons, bolt throwers, stone throwers etc

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that. Have you modeled a litter before? That would be my only concern, as the bonebreaker is really easy to make out of the Island of Blood box.

Also, what would be your thoughts on sacking the canon for 20 more clanrats to make a horde whilst keeping 6 ranks? Worthwhile?

The litter isn't too hard to make. You could just glue 2 20mm bases together, add a pair of storm vermin, and have the warlord standing on their shoulders.

If you sack the cannon, get 40 slaves with those points instead. In fact that's the only thing your list is missing; slaves.

Would consider using slaves, there pt for pt the most effective trash troop going with steadfast and strength in numbers. It wouldn't cost over 200pts to include 100 of them for your tarpit'ing needs.

Edited list.

I decided to go for a more shooty list, dropped the Abomination, added some rat-darts, another canon, and exchanged stormvermin for another unit of clanrats. I'm not sold on the slaves, seems like alot of work (assembling, painting...$$$) for units with lead 5 max if out of bubble and really doing nothing but being steadfast...on ld 5. I know they're sort of a mainstay of the skaven list, but is it absolutely necessary to use them? Have you guys played lists without slaves?

Slaves are amazing, as they are LD 10 with the GEN around. Steadfast 5 with a BSB closeby isn't too bad, but it's the GEN that makes them shine. Plus you can bog a unit, then fire into the combat. In some cases this is the only way to take out opposing units.

To save some cash, you can mix in some of the IoB clanrats into the unit. As long as most of the slaves are equiped WYSIWYG, then there shouldn't be an issue.

You're current list is looking good, but I would keep the slaves.
I think skaven really need the ability to bog and shoot opposing units, as there are some that you just can't beat in CC.

Edited again.

So I've been reading up on skaven tactics and changed the list around yet again. I think I finally have it tweaked just perfect. Have two units of clanrats for anvil?/bunker/teams, two tarpits of slaves, obligatory rat-darts and gutter runners, two cannons for defense, and the abom and plague monks/furnace for hammers. Even fit in that storm banner.

Looks good, but I'd drop the orb-lock to make the other one lv.1-2.
Your WLC's are a very good defence, and IMHO your best offence, but can be gimped by the storm banner, just like your opponents.
I still feel that the points from the SB would be better spent elsewhere, like more plague monks.

However the most important thing is that you are happy with the list, and if you are; build it up, and get some games in man!
Post some bat-reps and let us know how you do.
