Subject: Blood Angel Successor Chapter Colours and Markings -- Questions

Noble Knight of the Realm

First Question:
For chapters that adhere closely to the Codex Astartes, the right Pauldron shows the squad badge, being the symbol for type of squad and a number.
For my BA successor chapter I'm planning, I am thinking of having them adhere a bit more closely to the codex than their parent chapter. So I was considering doing this on their right pauldron. I noticed in the 40K rulebook that the Flesh Tearers, for example, follow this practice.
My question is, would assault troops have an an arrow since they are troops in a BA army, or would they have the four perpendicular arrows pointing outwards?
Second Question:
My successor chapter will have dark purple armour. But I was thinking of doing the Sanguinary Priests in red armour with the chapter badge on one shoulder, sort of like how in codex chapters the apothecaries wear white (i.e. a different colour from the regular marines). What do you think of this red armour idea, is it appropriate? Should they be white if they won't be the same as the rest of my army to distinguish from tech marines (even though I don't forsee every using tech marines in my army)?
Third Question
I think white goes better with purple than yellow does, so what do you think of white helmets on the assault squads and sergeants with red helmets? From a fluff perspective ...

I'd say it's best to use white... White always screams medic...
I'd give the Sergeants white helmets and the assault squad members red helmets... there is no fluff perspective on this...

The rule of Cool.
If you like it and think it looks good then do it. If you do decide to paint your priests in red, make sure the shade is different from the purple. A dark purple on the regular guys, means a dark red on the priest won't stand out as much as it could.
I think the white helmets would look good, although I've always disagreed with painting the helmet a different colour, it kinda acts like a "shoot me here" target.

You could use silver for sergeants as that is also codex approved. You could also use the stripe or laurels as that is also approved in the codex.

I think all those marking scheme choices make sense. If you do use the right pauldron for squad markings (type and number), where are you going to display the company though? Shoulder pad trim, as in codex markings?
You could choose any kind of arrow to denote assault squads, just maybe not any that are already associated with tacticals. If you do use the standard upward arrow for tacticals, I'd go with the four-pointed one for assault squads, but it doesn't really matter. Insignium Astartes shows that sometimes the exact shape of the marking differs within a single squad.
I like the idea of red apothecaries and white assault helmets, too.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)
And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions. |

@Skylifter: thanks for the comments. I think I'll go shoulder-pad trim to denote company or possibly background-colour behind the squad marking. However, I intend to do the first company for my army which would be white anyway.
I've switched gears a bit on the Sanguinary Priests and will be going white after being inspired by this: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=196675
I bought some sanguinary guard bitz to start work. I will probably do my Sanguinary priests as my first models.
