So does anyone remember this classic? I loved it. For anyone under the age of 25, the game (Syndicate) involved controlling a gang of cybernetically enhanced (and basically brain dead) former criminals to accomplish a series of missions that resulted in world domination. It was set in a Blade Runner esque environment and naturally, there were all sorts of fun armaments, the best of which was the Gauss gun. Oh and IIRC correctly, anyone set on fire ran around screaming

What other classic games evoke fond memories?

Flashman, this is my kind of thread! I could rant on all night about classic games. Here's a few:

1) Colonization on the Amiga 500/600/1200 back in the early 1990s. You can get it on emulator these days I think. The game itself is about building a colony in the new world and then declaring independance from Spain/Britain/Holland

2) Elite - another amiga classic. The ultimate space exploration game.

3) Batman on the commodore 64. Before most people's time, but a damn good game.

4) The first fallout game on the PC is another favourite of mine.

I'm a fan of Simtex's Master of Orion and Master of Magic games. I still play them on Emulator.

I believe they are circa 1994, and now available as Abandonware.

Sunset Riders, all except the Genesis version Bubble Bobble, Legend of Kage (lots of good Taito stuff!), Archon (another one with a billion versions). All the Disney games on the NES. So many memories.

Hmm... we got moved to generic video game thread. Tsk, this was supposed to be a nostalgia trip. Oh well...

Anyway...

@ Do_I_Not_Like_That - Yep, Elite was a favourite of mine, though I never had to suffer the wire frame version. By the time I got to play it on the PC, it was in full colour. I remembering having a minor heart attack when I first encountered the Thargoids. Fortunately, I had enough fuel to jump away.

And the elite soundtrack was pretty good too. Super mario land 3 is another of my nominations. Best mario ever IMO

Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego? 1990 version.

I can vividly remember my entire daycare class huddling around the PC we had with the blinds closed and utterly focused on where, exactly, the V.I.L.E. agent had gone to. Good times.

Maaaan, i loved syndicate. Persuaderatron the whole map, give em some crap pistols, and herd em into the enemy. I can't believe I forgot that one for the 'games that need sequels' thread. That said, man, the original Toejam and Earl. That game just brings back the memories. I'd say Xcom and Fallout, but I still play both of those, at least occasionally. How about some Streets of Rage, or the Jaguar AVP?

man, i love that soundtrack

Or this dude

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Elite - already mentioned, and the wire frame version as well, damn docking could be a pain.

Ishar 2 (probably 3 as well) - Old RPG where you collected up a group and went round beating up stuff. Two in particular stood out because of the City themed island.

Road Rash - the 3DO version was probably the best, as it ran smoother than the PS1 remake, and had a load of old grunge bands music I remember fondly from the time.

Warsong - Probably the first tactical turn based RPG I played, and still one of my all time faves. I'd have brought a copy by now if they didn't go for at least £40-50 when ever they pop up on ebay.

Shadowfire - a game that was hard to fathom sometimes on the C64, but a game I was a huge fan of, sorta adventure RPG.

edit - also agree on Toejam and Earl, only reason I still have a megadrive.

Master of orion 1 was awesome in it's day. I remember countless hours scheming and being wasted just playing that gem. Still rules the 4X kingdom.

Jones in the Fast Lane - Basically was The Sims Lite. You worked, studied, and found jobs. Along the way various events affected you (and who can forget the no clothes guys)

Quest for glory 1, so you Want to be a hero. THIS WAS THE ULTIMATE adventure rpg. Its what everything aspires to. Chock full of campy goodness, and references to movies. Good old fashion fun.

Syndicate was okay. The best games way back when have to be Masters of Orion 2 and XCOM: UFO defence.

I still play them once in a while...

I still remember getting Yars' Revenge many, many moons ago. Admittedly, it had been out for a bit before we picked it up.

I also recall getting our first NES when The Legend of Zelda was released. We also got the combo-pack of SMB and Duck Hunt.

Oh gosh, that game. I, too spent many a day hunting for that devilish woman in red.

I loved the Carmen Sandiego games as a kid. I spent hours playing the U.S.A., World and Time versions of the game (with Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego my all-time favorite).

Other than that, let's see...I'd say that Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask always give me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. With my recent retrieval of an emulator, I've also had the joys of returning to some of my other old N64 favorites, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. And of course, that third-person shooter that sucked up most of my childhood, Jet Force Gemini.

Yes, I know that some of my games are kind of newish, but hey, I went through childhood in the 90s, so my entire life was the N64.

Syndicate was great (Railguns!) - not so much the idea of making it an FPS though.
Basically no interest there.
