Hi all, new to Dakkadakka and Warhammer 40k.
Just wanted to see if you ya'll can help me develop my first small army.
So far I've got:
20 x Warriors
4 x Crypteks
2 x barges (not sure which ones to make yet)
12 x scarabs
2 x necron overlords
Been reading the codex and liking the deathmarks, although I'm not sure if they'll fit with what I have so far.
It's a weird bunch, any suggestions are greatly welcomed. Thanks!!
Edit: Please let me know if I've posted in the wrong spot :\ (newb here)

Welcome to the world of necrons! It's actually not a weird bunch!
Two crypteks is really good since it gives you the ability to have many cool tricks and gimmicks. Specially Veil of Darkness and Chronometron.
First of all, what type of game do you like? Close Combat? Shooty? Defensive?

Lets hope it's not close combat... your pretty much stuck with Shooty or defensive. Personally I run my defense as my shooting but that's just me.

Just an FYI, the barges are swappable so you make the entire kit and you can trade out any time for CCB or Annihilation barge by simply swapping out the gun for the standing rail for the lord. The bottom gun is also swappable anytime as well so you can take tesla or gauss as your leisure.
So, build them! Follow the rules on what not to glue. Enjoy.

Also use magnets!
And yes, we're not good in CC...but oh well you can't have everything!

Why not CC? I've built several CC focused lists and haven't lost yet with newcrons against nids, black templar, vanilla marines and chaos marines (and one game was nids/vanilla marines/chaos vs. newcrons!).

Welcome to the land of Robots. And no, you're in the right place (kinda...)
That what you got aint bad, but as kilink said, we gotta know your preferance on playing style before we can help.
A Monolith is the only thing that looks like a must. That and a Ghost Ark maybe Automatically Appended Next Post: And CC orientated list work, but then you start looking at min troops & wraithwing, which almost boots your entire collection out the window

I was thinking of doing more shooting. Plus like some of you have said earlier, I don't have much CC power. Thanks so much for all the help!
Also, my friend gave me his destroyer, any good to add a single destroyer?

The nice thing about Necrons is that they are a shooting army with a few very effective CC specialist units. Wraiths and Scarabs are the obvious choices. I tend to run a pretty standard Tesla list and then fill my fast attack out with 2 units of Scarabs and a unit of Wraiths. This has worked surprisingly well for me and creates a fun list where I'm focused on shooting but still get to enjoy using some good assault units. If shooting is your top priority (as is normal for the majority of Necron players) I have to recommend Annihilation Barge. They perform remarkably well for me against almost every opponent I have faced, and at 90pts they are one of the best deals in the codex.

Right now i am trying out a ghost ark list.
I run two GA filled with warriors + 1 lord + 1 Cyrptek. Then i add in wraiths or destroyers with maybe a ci tan.
I am debating the usefuless of the Ci tan or destroyers. The ci tain is good vs T3 armies minus DE and their poison. But i may opt for two full wraith squads.
I have to get barges myself ... after my next paycheck maybe. I think 2 annihilation barges will help tremendously vs some armies like sisters/orks/guard/nids.
I am not a fan of CCB ... sending my valuable overlord out in the middle of their army dosnt sound like a cool idea.

That's why you make sure you're always moving flat-out so you get the 4+ cover save and you're always 12-24" inches away from whatever you just attacked.

@chebychev. A single destroyer won't do a lot. If it is a Heavy Destroyer go ahead and sit there & shoot. But a T5 Sv3+ W1 KP is gonna get flattened

Annihilation Barges are your friend. At S7 they can slaughter most infantry or stun-lock lighter tanks.
At 90 points they are a bargain and, amazingly the actual kit itself is a deal as you get the vehicle and an HQ model with it for free! make another overlord or use it for parts for Lords/Crypteks.
A lot of people swear by the CCB, i haven't used it myself yet but i agree with the previous poster - havign an army that shoots and then putting your expensive HQ model out by himself on a fast, open topped skimmer with no support seems a bit too risky for my liking.
Saying that though, if they were really that bad so many people wouldn't use them!

The CCB overlord is insanely good. AV13, a 4+ cover save and the ability to remove immobilised or weapon destroyed is a bargain for its cost. 2 can very swiftly de-mech an opponent and they take a lot of pressure off your supporting units. From personal experience though they work best when using other fast threats to accompany them (scythes of both varieties and wraiths).

I love my CCBarge, but I've also seen the Annibarge flatten troops. I have no trouble running my HQ out in front; other than 2 extra wounds and phaeron, there is nothing that a Overlord can bring to a unit that a Court Lord can't. Don't misunderstand me, phaeron is game changing for Necrons, but then you are running a very different list.
I see myself eventually owning 4 barges, 1 CCbarge full-time, 2 Annibarge full-time, and one to swap back and forth. I'm also drooling over the conversion possibilities with the barge Lord.
Everything in the Heavy slot works better as pairs... which sucks if you want to run both a mini-farm list and Annibarges. :-(

You know you can use the barges as either one at any time, right? Or did you glue the big gun on the kit?

You can also model your GA/DA as both with magnets. Build like the Ghost Ark, with the ribs up, but dont glue on the nose piece, You can then magnetize the gun onto the top mounting.
I've also magnetized my nose piece so It points down when I'm running the DA, and up if the gun is out and running the GA.
p.s. don't put in the warriors. Use them for RP/EL markers.

Right now i have 2. one i have not glued the gun in, the other i have. I want to get at least one more as, with the people i play, my HS slot tends to be 2 Anni Barges and a unit of 2/3 spiders. i woudl keep one of them interchangeable so i coudl use the CCB every now and again. but i tend to always use my overlord as a Phaeron in a squad fo Immortals, just love the idea of relentless Heavy Bolters that glance tanks.
I'm also working on an apoc formation that uses 3-6 anni barges which combine their fire.
