I know this may be an incredibly silly question and is probably just me reading rules wrong but it's been nagging me all day: The entry for the Psycannon says it can fire in two modes: Assault 2 or Heavy 4, rending. Does this mean Pyscannons only rend when fired in the "heavy" mode? Again i apologize if this is an incredibly stupid question to most of you but i play crons so i don't see the rending rule very often and don't know how its commonly written in other codex's.

They rend on the roll of 6 to wound or pen regardless of assault 2 or heavy 4.

This is correct. The unit type is assault 2 or heavy 4, the weapon characteristic is rending.
If the weapon was going to only be rending when used as a heavy weapon, it would have a separate line in it's profile.
