Anyone thinking that the "new" painting guides are the laziest POS excuse for a "guide" ever?
How is a new painter going to have any damn clue what to do based on those swatches of color and the relevant word above them?
They took down all the old step by step photo guides, and replaced it with THAT gak?
I feel bad for kids, innocently visiting the GW site, thinking those "guides" will help them paint their models.

Well the old ones were taken down a bit before the new paints, could have left it closer to the swap. Either way it'll take time to build them up again if they can be bothered to.

The Website.
Also, I'm going to guess the old guides wont be republished with the new paint range.
Why would you do that when you could print them and charge for the books?

Not to be a jerk, but you did notice that at the top of the page--on each section, the colors run from step 1 to 6 yeah?
1: Basecoat
2: Wash
3: Layer
4: Layer
5: Drybrush
6: Glaze
They took down all the old step by step photo guides, and replaced it with THAT gak?
Did you ever think that maybe they just don't have full step-by-step photo guides ready yet? The previous step by step photo guides weren't all uploaded at once; they were done over the course of years.
I feel bad for kids, innocently visiting the GW site, thinking those "guides" will help them paint their models.
While it's certainly not as good as the old ones, it's not as bad as you're making it out to be--especially since it's likely meant to go hand-in-hand with a push to sell the $49.50 book with a 90 minute DVD of an 'Eavy Metal painter.
Edit note:
I'm not saying this set up is "good", nor that complaints are unjustified. I had a bunch of painting guides/galleries from their site bookmarked due to their usefulness(the one on horses was amazing) go dead; and this set up isn't really doing it for me. But I can see why they have it set up like this right now--and most of it might simply be that they haven't had time to do photographic step-by-steps with the new paints and every single army yet.

Guide? More like ad.
It looks more like a colour comparison guide to get you used to the swap over in a way.
I'd give it time for actual guides to show up (though they may just stay in that new how to paint book) and even then not all the best guides were even on their site. The paints are not the same, thus they will likely not publish the old ones again; they're just gone.

lol, what a sorry excuse for an 'article". The guides are for the poster boy themes of every army listed, and they don't include anything about metals, or even what you're supposed to do with the paints themselves, just the paints you'll need.
Glad I already know how to paint. Besides, what noob uses GW paint articles? You can find anything on the GW site done even better on any number of online forums.

"Buy the paints and your finely detailed miniatures will activate their patented feature with the new Finecoat system. The paint will actively seek out Citadel miniatures within range and adhere automatically in order through the use of cutting edge nanotechnology. Additionally, inspired by the old rumor that non- GW paint would melt GW miniatures, Finecoat will seek and hunt down nearby models made by inferior competitiors and strip them for materials used to sustain the life time of the nanobots which actively maintain and repair the paint job meaning no more nasty chips".

Reading the page a bit more closely, something stuck out at me...
Games Workshop wrote:Painting Guides are a great way to ensure that you have all the colours you need for a specific task. As an example, if you wanted to paint Blood Angels armour, you could use the Blood Angels painting guide below, which includes all six paints that you will need to paint red armour quickly and easily.
I don't think this is meant to be a big "step by step" thing by itself...

What I'm saying is, if you are new to 40k and model painting, you might need some help.
The old painting guides on GW were a nice place to start and it made sense to look for such guides on the site where you bought the paints.
Now all it is, is a gradient of the colors you should use, but not a single guide on how to actually paint.
Sure, maybe the'll post new ones, but what is the lag time on something like that? Wouldn't you want to release the painting guides parallel to the paint releases?
Wouldn't you have scheduled time, in your release schedule, to get some guides up at the same time your released the paint line?
Beh, whatever, I'm just bitching.

Nah, it would have made sense to keep the old guides up until maybe a day or so before the swap, then have the new versions up within a week of the new paints being available. With at least for the more popular factions available on release to show off the new product a touch more.

The lag time on that is probably "when the painters get time to do step-by-steps for a project relating to that army".
We'll likely see an Empire one when the models release, and who knows what after that. Their painters are pretty constantly busy working on upcoming projects, so who knows how this will play out. They might use it as a way to give us "sneak peeks" of what's going to be coming out (Optimism!) or they might just do it piecemeal. Disagree. The old guides used the old paints, which they have had in "selldown" mode for awhile now. It would have been a smidge silly to keep the old colors up there, I think...and the possibility of people complaining that they "just swapped the paint colors from the old ones to the new ones, while keeping the guides the same" probably occurred to them.
then have the new versions up within a week of the new paints being available. With at least for the more popular factions available on release to show off the new product a touch more.
They're probably looking at this in terms of sales for the upcoming painting book. If they can get interest in it going enough; that's another $49.50 on top of paints for someone just getting into the hobby.
