So I'm starting a new extension for my Chaos Space Marine Army. Have delved into the genre of god-specificity with my Emperor's Children, I'm wondering what the next extension should be.

If I was to do Iron Warriors, it wouldn't be the standard scheme. It would be something darker, rustier, with less silver and gold but more burnt iron and blackened brass. Heavily weathered, paint peeling, stained yellow hazard chevrons, rust in all the cracks, glowing red eyes - the weathering works. I prefer Iron Warriors tactics to alpha legion tactics. My Emperor's Children army features a disappointing lack of tanks (only two rhinos and a defiler). Vehicles and mechanization would be a lot of fun to me.

However, Iron Warriors are very very overplayed. Alpha Legion are very very underplayed.

The Alphas color scheme unmodified is just as interesting as my modified IW scheme. I love the Alpha Legion tactics and fluff - but they are very difficult to actually portray on the tabletop. Apart from spamming chosen, I can't think of any special things but renegade guard. List making for the Alphas has been a pain in the ass- its difficult to create something fluffy yet playable for them.

I looked at the option of Fallen Angels because they are similar to the black legion in that they have no organization restrictions. Because each fallen warband is so unique, any combo of units can be used. That, and no one plays Fallen. At all. Ever.

What do you guys think?

These are some images as to how I would go about painting my Iron Warriors.

How I would do Alpha Legion (with this scheme applied to CSM models).

Some lovely images from the wiki of the Fallen. I'd probably convert them by combining Forge World Mk III marines with chaos space marines and dark angels veterans.

IW would paint up fastest and have lots of cool modelling options.

I think fallen angels would be awesome because I've never seen it done right and no one you know would have it.

I think I'm missing something here because I don't know what an amry is.

I would choose Alpha Legion, not a big fan of the fallen, and Iron Warriors are just stupid.

In the 2nd edition Chaos army there were rules for Fallen Angels. Cypher could take a squad of them as a retinue. They were Chaos Veterans (think infiltrating Chosen) who got to use the loyalist And They Shall Know No Fear rule.
If you go Fallen Angels remember to leave the green paint alone. Heresy Dark Angels wore BLACK (despite every Heavy Metal depiction of Cypher)

For the Emperor! Kill Maim Burn!... I mean purge the unclean!

Thanks for all the votes! I'll be reviewing the final poll once I've finished painting the Emperor's Children. For the fallen, Brotherjulian, I'd probably go with black working up to a very dark green in the lightest areas. Otherwise they are just black legion, ya know?

I voted Fallen because it's an army I've never seen done before. While I would have voted Iron Warriors because they are one of my favorite chaos legions, I didn't because they are extremely overplayed, which is why I haven't built an Iron Warriors warband myself.

I'd say fallen angels, you don't see them often.

I'll confess - I'm bias towards Iron Warriors mainly due to building a Iron Warriors splinter group myself. The Iron Warriors possibility for conversions is quite endless IMO (bionics etc) and its a good excuse to field lots of tanks/titans.
Sounds like you've got a really strong paint scheme in your head, I definitely would like to see some painted up if only to inspire me more.

I don't know enough about Alpha Legion to comment on them other than there really isn't many people who play them so they would definitly be a unique force without much conversions.

As for the Fallen? I'm a little critical of The Fallen. Whenever people use them in their CSM armies they just seem to use Dark Angels cloaked figures with CSM boltguns.... I can't criticise because I probably couldn't do much better, but its just not as interesting as IW.

I spose the question is - how would you make The Fallen unique?

If you only wanna choose between those three i would say go for IW. I have a big IW myself and like the theme, the conversion possibilities and the all hazard stripes mood!!!
I would like to see a Fallen army but its not a challenge i think. I would say to you if you want to wait a few months to check what we will see if there is a new codex and then
judge and decide!

The Fallen. I don't really know why, maybe it's the name, it's just more Chaos-y lol.

That and you can have so much fun with them on every aspect of the hobby as you're pretty unrestricted I guess?
