Hey,

Just signed up! I used to collect Warhammer when I was a kid and didn't have a clue how to play it, just painted them (badly) and then they sat in a box forever which it turns out my little brother sold at some point.

A BBC article (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17274186) about Wargaming and specifically, Warhammer, got me thinking the other day and I decided to have another go!

This time, I've learned to play by watching a youtube series and by reading the rule book (time well spent at work!). I'm pretty sure I've got it nailed although I know I'm going to have to do a lot of referencing to the rule book/codexes to begin with. A colleague of mine is undertaking this adventure with me so we'll be in the same boat.

I decided to go with Orks and am awaiting my first delivery tomorrow. The aforementioned colleague and I decided to get two black reach sets between us (we'll swap units from them as he's choosing space marines) and a battle force. I've also ordered a couple of other little bits such as a Big Mek (for KFF!) and some Killa Kans as I'm going to go with the green tide tactic to begin with! Also ordered paint, tools etc etc and am now £400 worse off but I'm excited! Will be using guides I found on here to help with my painting.

Once I've painted my first lot of models, I'll draft up an army list and then order whatever else I need (lots more boyz) and get them painted before I start playing!

Anyway, started to ramble there a bit. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions to ask along the way but for the time being... Hello!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to DakKa... I made a recent return to the hobby too. Post up some of your boyz once you get them painted!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Green tide list is great way to start.

Boyz under the cover of a mek with KFF progress forward behind a wall of killa kans. Whilst its an effective list you will find you may need to put in a few other units to suppliment and protect your flanks.

Always a treat when I see a new Warboss pick the game up.
You picked the right army Boss!
I have two suggestions right off the bat. Don't wait till all your models are painted to get in your first few games!
Get them built, build a list and just play some "practice" games while you are painting them up.
Believe me when I say this, because I waited till I had painted everything to field it.
Orks being horde, means you'll be painting longer than you imagine.
Plus, knowing you can play regardless of the state of progress in the painting department will improve your painting simply on virtue of not rushing then paint jobs in order to play.

Secondly, do yourselves a favor, and start with something like 500 pt games. As new players, you'll take FOREVER to finish even small games, and this isn't always a good thing. Long games are fun, but if it's a long game because you spent 80% of your time looking up rules, it gets a bit exhausting.

Lastly, feel free to post any and all questions here on Dakka, your fellow players, and especially your fellow Warbosses will be more than happy to help!

Good luck!

and

She is also identified as his sister, and daughter of Zeus and Hera in a role closely resembling that of Eris; with Homer in particular representing the two as the same goddess. As goddess of war, Enyo is responsible for orchestrating the destruction of cities

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

I've been busy this weekend with rugby and subsequent rugby social (and subsequent hangover) but I assemebled some of the boyz on Friday night and will have a go at beginning to paint tomorrow evening.

Matphat: Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely play a few games before waiting for them all to be painted. Could probably just use the black reach units for a few practice games with the guy from work!
