Hey guys hope you can help me out here, I am looking to start some pretty basic green stuff modelling however i am a complete noob when it comes to greenstuff.

The only thing i have really made was a fur topped cape for my abbaddon.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/340222-This%20is%20my%20first%20attempt%20at%20green%20stuff%2C%20Im%20happy%20with%20it.html?m=2

Anyway my question is this, Is there a modelling putty out there that is reuseable and the same consistency as greenstuff?

I dont really fancy wasting my money on my practice pieces.

also if anyone knows of any good guides for working with GS that would be much appreciated

I cobbled what knowledge I have from youtube and dakka, there actually is some good stuff on youtube.

It really depends on what you want to practice, you can practice your sculpting chops on regular clay, although if you want to practice modelling small detail I would suggest some sculpey/fimo clay. It is reusable until you bake it. However, sculpey doesn't act the same way as greenstuff and it's really another animal. You should think about getting a big roll of greenstuff on ebay, a bit of a down payment on it but a lot comes in a single roll, like a 'lifetime supply'. It really all comes down to what you want to do with it... remember if you want to do a whole figure, I usually just build up the middle with plain wire and hot glue and only the 'skin' is greenstuff or grey stuff.

Chewed up bubblegum is about the closest analog, especially the cheaper stuff like Doublemint. I've never used it for practice, but if you're on a budget, it's what I'd go with. While Sculpey, FIMO, and other clays are reuseable, they just aren't the same consistency and you'd find your greenstuff not responding the same way.

I'd get one of the larger tubes of greenstuff to play and work with. There's plenty in each tube and unless you're using it to make your own miniatures (like I am), then you'll have plenty to mess with.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
