Ok, so this is one of my first games for a year or so (Marriage can stymie things somewhat) and my first with the new Sisters 'dex. I've read a lot of advice on the forums here (Props to Amerikon, Pretre, and Spidey) but nothing helps get the feel of a new list like playing some games with it.

My list:

Celestine

2 x BSS squads in rhinos with the classic meltagun + HF combo. Combimelta on the superiors for laughs.

2 x Dominions in rhinos with 2xMelta, 2xflamer and more combimelta goodness

7 x Seraphim with 2xHF and a power weapon

5 x Rets with 4xHB

2 x Exorcist

This is a TaC list i've pieced together from what everyone on the interwebs has said. I have good anti tank and plenty of bodies to throw away in assaults. I despise tailoring lists and much prefer a friendly 'let's see what happens' approach to my games.

My opponents list:

Logan Grimnar

5 x Long fangs, 2xML, 2xHB

6 x WG terminators with a mix of LC's, TH's, CF's and an assault cannon + Arjok (dunno if spelt correctly)

6 x WG terminators with the same mix of weapons as above

6 x WG terminators as above

LR Crusader (I think... it's the one with the TL AC and hurrican bolter sponsons)

I don't think his list was particularly well optimised, but he too had no idea what he'd be facing so I guess he just took what he thought was cool

We roll for mission and get KP's (eek!) and Spearhead deployment.

Pre game thoughts

His army is very assault orientated but I don't really care as I expect to sacrifice a couple of squads for tactical advantage anyway (SoB might win an assault against Tau, but not much else) hopefully this will play into my hands as he concentrates on trying to get close rather than trying to pop my transports then mop up. I earmark Celestine for dealing with the long fangs, the dominions for Logan+WG, and the rest of my army for just general whittling away!

Setup

I win the roll-off and choose to go first. I deploy as close to the centre of the board as possible with the Rets and exorcists skulking around a large piece of terrain near the back of my quarter. He deploys similarly with Logan + homeboys in front of his LR (embarking Arjok and his squad), the long fangs on top of a building and his other termies perched underneath.

He tries and fails to steal the initiative.

One of my Dominion squads makes a move towards Logan, the other moves to outflank his termies hiding in the ruins.

Turn1
My Exorcists move into position to hit Logan's squad, the BSS move around the centre to get at the termies in the ruins - hiding Celestine behind their rhinos. The Dominions move up and disembark in front of Logan. Seraphim move to the centre and hide behind decaying stone walls. Shooting is a bit underwhelming; the Dominions manage to kill 2 terminators and put a wound on Logan, Rets down another Terminator in Logans squad while the Exorcists roll a 6 and a 5 for their missile quota but either miss completely or fail to wound

My opponent moves into asault range with Logan's squad, the LR rumbles up behind them, his other Termies stay hiding in the ruins making shadow puppets on the walls. His shooting is as ineffective as mine, the greatest success being to blow a stormbolter off a rhino. The assault phase is rather more effective as he wipes out the dominions with Logan and shakes their rhino :(

End of turn 1: SoB 0 SW 1

Turn 2
My damaged rhino speeds away from Logan while my seraphim and other Dominion squad move into position to finish him off. Celestine and my mounted BSS squads continue to move towards his right flank but are still out of effective fire range. Shooting is a little better this turn as the Seraphim and Rets manage to kill the rest of Logans buddies and reduce him to one wound. I assault Logan with my Seraphim and take a couple of potshots at his LR with my remaining Dominion squad: This backfires spectacularly as all 3 meltas miss his LR and Logan survives CC, breaks the Seraphim and consolidates angrily towards my Dominion squad :( Exorcists once again roll plenty of shots but are inaccurate and manage only 2 hits on the long fangs who pass their cover saves.

The LR rumbles up and disgorges Arjok and friends, who join Logan for a bit of the ol' ultraviolence. He once again manages to blow a stormbolter off one of my rhinos but his long fangs fare a lot better and put 2 wounds on Celestine! Assault sees him wipe out the remaining Seraphim and my final Dominion squad, happily though he is an inch short of consolidating into cover

End of turn: SoB 1 SW 3

Turn 3
Well, that's the whole front line of my army gone with only 6 dead terminators to show for it! I move my remaining transports as far away as possible from the Logan/Arjok unit and prepare to shower them with long range fire. Celestine decides it is time to enter the fray and leaps into the ruins just to the side of the long fangs, my BSS squads move away from the terminators in the ruins in case they get bored of playing shadow puppets and try to kill me. Exorcists move around a bit to improve their field of fire. I finally pass a faith roll and the combination of rending HB's and Exorcist missiles kills Arjok and most of his squad, leaving just Logan (unkillable git!) and 2 other terminators. Celestine wastes no time at all killing one long fang with her flamer then cutting down the rest in assault before they can strike back

Logan, starved of targets, moves into the nearest patch of cover while the LR lines up for some shots at the rets. The termies finally move out of cover and form up to face the incoming Celestine. Shooting does very little as the Rets only lose one of their number to fire from Logan's squad and the LR.

End of turn: SoB 2 SW 3

Turn 4
Celestine leaps off the ruins into range of the Terminators, both BSS squads drive in the same direction but are out of range for shooting. The surving transports continue running away, one Exorcist speeds behind cover and the other stays put. A salvo of rockets (6 missiles, 6 hits) kills the regular terminators in Logan's squad, but Mr.Teflon passes his cover saves. Finally the Rets manage to put Logan to rest with a shower of HB shells. Celestine kills one terminator with her flamer but, despite putting 4 wounds on the squad in CC kills no more and is soundly slapped down by a thunderhammer He consolidates towards his LR.

His LR turns 180 and heads towards his remaining Terminators who try to hide from the Exorcists behind some ruins. Not much else he could do.

End of Turn: SoB 4 SW 4

Turn 5
I roll up my 2 BSS and disembark one in range of his terminators. Celestine fails her WBB roll and admires the daisies. The Exorcists move to get clear shots at the LR and terminators. I unload everything into the terminators... after the smoke clears, there is nothing left..... Apart from a giant LR bearing down on a disembarked BSS :S

He tank shocks my Sisters who pass their break test and attempt a DoG with the meltagun.... which fails :(

End of Turn: SoB 5 SW 4

We roll to see if the game continues and get a 2. Game Over.

SoB win by 1KP!

Post game thoughts
This went very badly for 2 turns. I totally underestimated how much damage 7 terminators could soak up, I think I was still in the mindset of the old WH 'dex where rending boltguns could happily take out most things on their own. Once my opponent had wiped out everything I could throw at him, the game turned around: I could outrange him with my Rets and Exorcists and not worry too much about him getting close enough to threaten me. I think part of my problem was that I was too eager to get close to him when I was, weirdly for SoB, better off plinking away at range until he got close enough to something to be a threat

I think my list is solid, but I really need to play more games against more opponents to get my tactics sorted The suicidal Dominion charge will work against most stuff but, as I know now, not terminator spam!

Best performers in the list were either the Exorcists or Celestine (Who, as my opponent will testify, is totally unfair for her points cost). Neither had a great game but both did the jobs they were assigned perfectly.

Thanks for reading!

Good stuff sir, a good victory over da' wolves.
Always like seeing SOB reports, since I've never actually seen a force of them in person, so its the only way I get to learn about them.

Very nice win. I think the ladies have a natural advantage against Logan/Death/Draigowing style armies, but that was mostly evened out by the Kill Points mission.

This has always been a bit of a problem for opponents in the past; not many people play SoB so no-one really has that much experience playing against them.

Heh... I hoped someone would get that reference

I agree with the natural advantage, it's the same as under the old rules where SoB would happily take apart any small, elite army. I was probably a bit too aggressive with my Dominions and Seraphim, especially in a KP mission but they did roughly what they were supposed to and kept my opponent in his deployment zone for 3 turns, by which time he was too far away from the rest of my army to do anything other than take potshots at the Rets and the retreating rhinos

I'm more of a painter than a player

If the local GW runs a tournament i'll try to get time off for it... Most of the competitive play at my local GW seems to be Apocalypse based and, hence, not very interesting (too many kids with too many Calgars :S)

Thanks for reading though; always glad when a batrep with no pics gets a few responses

That's the strength of the Dominion rush. You played it the way any Vet Sisters player would have. I'm glad to see your getting some games in with the ladies. I think I would have Ignored Logan for the first couple turns though and went with double the dominions on the Land Raider.

Great report, J.Black, a couple notes for things I saw.

J.Black wrote: The Dominions move up and disembark in front of Logan.... The assault phase is rather more effective as he wipes out the dominions with Logan and shakes their rhino :(

Never disembark unless you absolutely have to. Your dominions are in rhinos and you could have fired the two meltas out the top and still been safe from Logan. "She who bails fails."

End of turn 1: SoB 0 SW 1

I assault Logan with my Seraphim and take a couple of potshots at his LR with my remaining Dominion squad: This backfires spectacularly as all 3 meltas miss his LR and Logan survives CC, breaks the Seraphim and consolidates angrily towards my Dominion squad

Yeah, Seraphim vs Logan was a losing proposition and you gave him a free consolidate. If you wanted to slow him down, you could have surround him with the Seraphim and not assaulted. Then he would have charged on his turn and you would have restricted his movement.

I roll up my 2 BSS and disembark one in range of his terminators.

Whoops. Don't disembark!

This went very badly for 2 turns. I totally underestimated how much damage 7 terminators could soak up, I think I was still in the mindset of the old WH 'dex where rending boltguns could happily take out most things on their own.

THIS! It used to be worth it to disembark and rapid fire. Now it is not.

I think my list is solid, but I really need to play more games against more opponents to get my tactics sorted The suicidal Dominion charge will work against most stuff but, as I know now, not terminator spam!

If you're going to use Doms, you need to know when to jump out. Most of the time it is not worth it, especially if you have Rhino doms. Make them disembark you. Remember, jumping out only nets you a couple inches and 1 more (combi)melta.

Either way, great job!
