Hey all. I recently got the 2 player Battlebox and my son and I have claimed Khador and Menoth. My wife also wants to play, and she wants Cygnar.

Could one of you please give me a list of what figures to buy so that she would have an equivalent force to those in the Battlebox?

Thanks.

You want to know what comes in the Cygnar Battlebox?

Perhaps I should have been more clear. I have the 2 player battle box. http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/two-player-battle-box/warmachine-two-player-battle-box

I wanted a Cygnar force that would be equivalent to the ones that come in that box.

Off the top of my head:

pStryker: Starter caster
-Ironclad: Beatstick 'jack
-Cyclone: Anti-Infantry Heavy Shooty Jack
-Sentinel: 4-pt Light Shooter

Stormblades + UA or Sword Knights + UA: Fancy Infantry dudes with melee weapons.

It's not exact fit, but nothing would be it. It's not really a great list either but the rest of the start box forces aren't exactly tight either. It'd be the same points cost as the menite side, at least.

EDIT: Take this with a pile of salt. As I'm a menoth player only vaguely familiar with the cygnar models/costs. I could be waaay off.

This is a fairly tricky question since Cygnar is lacking in units that match the cinerators or man-o-wars in both form and function. There are no in-faction units that even use that same medium base size and have health. The battlebox caster has the ability to make things much tougher, but they are still going to fall short compared to those 8-health warriors. I will try to post a couple alternatives though. I'll describe the units the best I can so you can judge what might be best for your wife's tastes.

Points: 20
Commander Coleman Stryker (*6pts)
* Charger (4pts)
* Ironclad (7pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
* * Hunter (6pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)
Here you have the gun mages, a frail but evasive toolbox. They won't be hitting with the power to do heavy damage to anything, but they can push back and knock down enemies as you line up attacks on the caster. This list also introduces jack marshaling and brings in a solo that can debilitate warjacks.

Points: 20
Commander Coleman Stryker (*6pts)
* Charger (4pts)
* Lancer (6pts)
* Stormclad (10pts)
Stormblade Infantry (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* 1 Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner (1pts)
Stormblades are melee infantry that also have very strong short ranged guns just like the man-o-war but with greater accuracy rather than durability. The storm gunner attachment has a much longer ranged gun than the normal unit and helps the unit gang up on a single big target with their guns.

Points: 21
Captain Victoria Haley (*5pts)
* Lancer (6pts)
* Defender (9pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)
This third list swaps the warcaster for one that can turtle a bit and sets up a stronger shooting list. It also adds in the journeyman warcaster solo, which is a cygnar staple.

I'd recommend Boomhowlers and Company. Fills a similar "tough" type unit to somewhat match the multi wound medium bases of Shock Troopers and Cinerators. Instead of multi wound though it's doing it with more bodies a d literal Tough. Another option would be the Ogrun Assault Corps. They'd be your multi wounders.

Boomhowlers is probably the closest thing that will match the starter box.

Dais, thanks for that very detailed post.

Assault Corps would likely match better than Boomhowler. He's a character unit while the AC is a regular unit that is max 5 models and tossing in Murdoch makes them downright nasty with pStryker.

The problem with substituting any merc. unit as the contemporary for cinerators or man-o-wars is that faction spells and feats do not extend to them. You can add Murdoch but that adds in the complications of once per game abilities, attachments, complex orders, and the possibility of losing it all when the ranking officer dies. I agree ogrun assault corps are a better analogue to the shocktoops and ceinerators than anything else cygnar has, but in reality it would just make things more confusing for a new player than simply understanding your troops aren't as tough.
