I had :
4 Bolter Marines
1 ML Marine

being assaulted by genestealers which caused 4 normal wounds, 4 rending.

I assigned 4 rending to bolters, 1 normal to ML which left me 3 more to allocate. So I put them on the bolters which means I rolled 1 normal armour save for the ML marine.

Is this correct?

Also, a slighty different scenario:

3 Bolter
1 ML
1 Sarg.

Taking 4 normal and 4 rending.

I assigned 3 rending to bolters, 1 normal to ML, 1 normal to Sarg, leaving 2 normal and 1 rending to wrap around, so I put those on the bolter marines. Making me only roll 1 armour save on the ML and Sarg?

Is this correct?

Thanks

Yeah this is correct as far as I am aware.

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

Wow quick responses, thanks guys.

I thought it was right but it doesn't feel right especially in the 2nd example where you can negate the extra rending hit :p

If that doesn't feel right, wait until you encounter a unit of Ork Nobs where each one is equipped differently.

But seriously, learning how to allocate wound to minimize their effects is one of the easier skills to learn. Nothing "wrong" about it. More like something essential about it.

Because of the rending, wouldn't that cause the models to be removed immediately because they would have no saves?

Yes but not immediately. You do remove one model for every rend within the wound group that the rending wounds were allocated to, when you are at the remove casualties step.

No, you get to allocate the unsaved wounds from rending and the wounds with the armour saves in the same way as with shooting wounds from mixed weapons types. Otherwise you would have in the top example 4 dead marines and then 4 saves on 1 man, which is neither RAW or RAI.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

You did it correctly. That's the downside of too many Genestealers.

In the dark recesses of your mind...

I play with two diversified squads of paladins, and I've had some people basically accuse me of cheating when I've tried to explain allocating wounds to diverse, multiple wound models.
