I've had the Battle Missions book for some time now, and was just wondering what other people thought of Kill Team. We want to make Kill Team our regular game (as it takes up less time than a whole battle, and we dont have a lot of space or time) and I'd like to know if anyone had any tips, or could explain how they run Kill Team tournaments or anything.

I play Mordheim so I know that having a higher model count generally is best to avoid the rout check. How do you guys play with squad-based rules (like Bladestorm?) How long does your average game take? How many games do you think you could finish in a sitting?

Just to lead off, I'm playing Blood Angels. 5 man scout squad (BP/CCW) 4 Death Company, 1 with Power Sword and 1 with Thunder Hammer, the other two with Boltguns. What's your recipe for success?

As an Ork player, I hated kill team. Victory conditions hinge on leadership tests. Most of our games took 30 mintues to an hour depending on how experienced the players were. It was part of a beginners escalation league so lots of people were still learning the rules. Squad based rules applied only when the models were in coherency (extended range coherency per kill team rules).

I'd probably look up the kill team rules in the back of the 4th ed rulebook instead. They're much more robust and interesting.

I know a lot of people like Killzone 40k, which is a fan made ruleset. Do a search for it, and it's pretty easy to turn up. I've taken a look at the rules, and it looks pretty cool, but I have yet to give it a try.

I like the Kill team rules from 4th edition, but I like the Combat Patrol mission/rules MUCH better. You get a small narrative skirmish-level 40K game, which is a nice way to play very short games and also get a break from large games. It's also more fun for me because both sides are equal, rather than "heroes versus mooks".
