is it still pay only? If so, is it worth it?

Depends what you get out of it. I play it about three to four times a week on average atm, so the £9 I pay a month for a 6month sub, is pretty good value to me.

I am of course quite invested in the game with multiple lvl 85 characters of course, however I enjoy the leveling still, and other activities like pet collecting.

So to me yeah worth it, to others not so much. Its really something only you can answer by trying it.

No. It used to be worth it but the game is way too easy. You basically get given gear these days.

WoW was fun pre-BC, now not so much. Pre-BC is when people actually had to spec for a raid and know what they were doing, now its OMG ZERG EVERYTINGS!!!!. Seriously.. I quit WoW prior to BC and came back for WotLK, it only took me a few months to quit again because the playerbase doesnt know how to do anything, let alone work together.

sure Bliz implemented cross server stuff but a PUG, is a PUG is a PUG and will ALWAYS fail.

I would consider myself a casual player but when my guild tried to start raiding and had no idea what they were doing. The would do "practice raids" of MC or AG with their max level characters and just DPS everything to death. i figured i would give them a real test and suggested AQ40. They figured because they were 20 lvls over what it was designed for it would be a breeze. it took about 10 min before they wiped and then it was a joke as they died over and over to a single boss. it was at that time that i quit my guild and unsubbed.

I'm not sure our MMO goals could be further apart Deathklaat.
I've not been in a Dungeon for about six months that was lvl 85.

Been doing other things like pet and mount collecting or levelling alts.

There is a trial JohnnoM, my best advice is to try it for a few days and decide yourself.

Its like I said, you can only measure it by what you personally get out of it. A few days will let you know where you stand and cost you nothing but time.

i was in a hardcore raiding guild for a while so my expectations when doing raids is a bit high. its not like i didnt try to help everyone out beforehand by giving them the guides before every practice raid we did.

i tried explaining the need for dedicated tanks and keeping the dps under control to minimalize aggro it fell on deaf ears.

i am just not one for collecting things, altho during WotLK i did seek out and kill just about every single rare mob solo with my stunty DK.

I don't play it anymore, since for me it's a life-sucker and I can't afford a time sink like that when I already have none to spare. That said I still think it's a great game and they've really accomplished great things over the years.. and there's like 87,000,000 subscribers now for a reason.

If you can get a good group of friends to play together often it can be great fun, but for me I usually would just play solo and get bored kinda quick. I tried out Cataclysm just to get my main guy up to 85, then I tried the new races and got bored real quick.. only played for about 2 weeks before I quit last time. Any guilds I've been in before are long gone now. I might check out Kung Fu Panda though, just to see what's new.

Too many good and better MMO's coming out to waste your time on WoW.

Its dieing at this point because the rest of the MMO industry is innovating.

The upcoming World of Darkness MMO, TERA, GW2, EVE, etc - all of the new MMO's coming out in the coming years will squeeze the last of the vitality that WoW is holding on to.

Blizzard will likely move on and start another MMO to compete with those. The current WoW is just too old and entrenched in the old way of MMO's to survive once the ones I listed above come out.

Advocating piracy is against dakka rules dude, don't do it.

You can play the game for free up to level 20 100% legally.

Yup, you can play for ever and for free, upto lvl20. Cant go past it, but if youve got it in you, one could just keep rocking. I remember before the wife and I got back into it, I joined a raid group of 18 other free players, and 1 or 2 actual paying players, and we tried in vain to raid Stormwind. It ended horribly for us
