Hello. If I am looking to convert an army into a samurai feel in warhammer, how would you do it?

I know that skavens come with a "eastern" feel already. (With the gutter runners etc. and also the clanrats come with samurai armour I think?) However, I am not sutch a fan of skaven. What else alternatives are there? On the top of my head I am thinking Ogres who have been in the east or daemons (oni's). In both cases you can make a pretty good lord that is asian inspiered. However, is it possible to do chaos warriors? I have no idea how I should convert the warriors though. They look a bit barbaric to me. Also, the fluff might be hard to fitt.

Also, the ogres have an armour that lets the ogre "eat" and aponent in a duel. I instantly think of the throne of darkness game cover. (Link bellow) There is a daemon who has his chest and lover part of the body seperated by a glowing mouth. A mouth in the moddel of an oni like ogre with smaurai armour on him would be cool for a lord. A daemon prince or a greatre daemon would alos work. Perhaps even a lord choise chaos warrior. I do not know, do any of you have any idea? Ideal it should function as an army as well as having a relativaly low model count due to the time it takes to convert things. If 40 chaos warriors where to become 40 samurais...well...I do not know where to start...

Please, this is a dream I have been having for some time now. It would be awsome. Any advice will be apreaciated.

I think chaos warriors might actually be the way to go. It will need heavy converting, but you can have heavily armoured samurai-like chaos warriors, lightly armoured barbarians with samurai-style weapons and hats, for example, both will work just as well with chaos knights and mounted barbarians, and the monster, lord and hero choices will give you all kinds of options to field eastern-style daemons and dragons.

Fluffwise, it is in fact quite easy to justify. The chaos wastes go around the whole globe of the WH world, so they are just as close to Cathay and Nippon as they are to the Imperium and Bretonnia. And since sometimes, imperial or bretonnian knights go renegade, travel north and found warbands, cathayan or nipponese warriors could do just that. Entirely feasible, and I am one of the hardcore fluff nazis.

And if I may add: I really, really want to see your models. I had thought about ways to create a cool eastern-style army in 40k, but WHFB is actually a much better setting for this.

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

Do you have any tips on how to convert them? Obviusly if I am using chaos warriors the cloak will be staing on (I do not really like it) The moast ompirtant parts will be to get asian like weaponds and samurai helmets I should think.

Also, i should porbably try to find some samurai battle tactids how they fought etc. If I was doing ogres I could be doing tetsubo's etc. (Obvoisly they are already precent in a mongolian/asian mix.)

How important is GW tournament legal to you? If it isn't that important to you you could cannabalize the Wargames Factory samurai and ashigaru for parts. (Basically, the samurai would be the Chaos Warriors, and the ashigaru the Chaos Marauders.)

http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/rising-sun

For some inspiration or more parts, you may want to visit
http://www.bushido-thegame.com/ It has a Cultist faction and an Oni faction either of which could be used in a Chaos Warriors army.

Thanks Hamster! :-)

In short the legalaty is not so important to me. However, I do feel they might be a bit short for chaos warriors and that they where not so well made/skulped? However, they are samurai though. Perhaps they would do better as empier units?

I know someone with a samurai undead army led by a blood dragon samurai lord which is pretty amazing and has fought in a number of UK Fantasy GTs, but then he is a sculptor so the conversion work on most of the main units was pretty extensive. Unfortunately the only pics I can find of it are in his private Facebook gallery.

Of course, if you go with Ogres you could do whole units of ninja gnoblars...

You're welcome. They might be too small to use as is, but my thought was to use them mainly for bitz. For example, adding Japanese shoulderpads to GW figures and such. Just a time-saver instead of sculpting multiple items out of greenstuff.

Check out these:

Kromlech do some nice samurai heads (also back packs but they're really designed to convert space marines)

Also Perry miniatures for samurai weapons. If you're interested theres some chaos space marine/forgeworld/samurai/berzerkers in my chaos army thread.

Well I found these.

They might be a bitt smal for warhammer though who use heroic scale. However, they would be cool on chaos warriors of khorn or something. Eternal warriors fighting or something.

Since I am alreayd playing khemri I am hard pressed to make another army of undeads. Perhaps I could put them on high elfs?

Edit: And this conversion is just...wow...he has some better tools to work with then me: http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1538-ogre-kingdoms-bull-samurai-conversion

If you do use the chaos warrior miniatures as a basis, I'd go for at least different heads, weapons, but also shoulder armour. Samurai shoulder armour styles are quite specific, I think.

Would it be possible to make dwarfs samurais? They have a strong ancestory linegage. If the beards are on the heads a head swap converion would solve a lott of things. The viking marks would need to be re-modelled. Also, the hammers would be a bit lame. Katanas for all? Dragon mouthed cannons could work.

I am going to do some research if the forge world chaos warfes could function.

OK. I had some green stuff and I had 3 chaos warriors to spare as I got home and I did a very rough test model. As you can se it is very rough and it is not very good.

Something also became apparent to me and i do not think the chaos warrior makes for a very good samurai. The chaos model is just so iconic in itself I am ruining a good model. It is to large before I add the green stuff. Also there is the problem of the weapon. He has two hands. I can not be adding shield to it since samurais did not have shields. I still think chaos warriors or ogers are the way to go due to the lov model count.

What I am thinking of though is to use skaven storm vermin. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod260001a

They have the halberd from before. They look sort of eastern. All I need to do is get rid of the tail and make them taler and bulkier and get a new base. The alternative would be high elf phoenix guards or tomb kings tomb guard, both who would need far to mutch converting. What do you think? Also, sugestions for a good weapon in the game would be good for chaos warriors. Should it be halberds or great weaponds? (I think halberds sound the best, S5 at high inisiative!)

There is a bunch of eastern looking fellers among the Lord of the rings models. Just a little bit to small for normal WH, but really fit the estetics of chaos warrior samurai.

Secret Weapon miniatures also does Oni masks. Will fit in a samurai-themed army.

Saw these when some client of mine was having an idea of converting a Space Marine army into samurai. Glad that didn't pull through since, while interesting, it would be so hard to convert them all!

I wouldn't really recommend the chaos warriors for converting into samurai, they are pretty well stuck the way they are and hard to convert, although I have thought about using a similar idea but with marauders (as they are pretty dynamic and have no armor at all, allowing you to scratch build pretty much whatever you want!)

Do anybody have any good idea's how to make katanas? It seems to be quite a problem.

However, this Ogre vampier lord seems to have used the spruce from a plastic kitt I think and just sharpened it? I might be wrong, but does not that look like what it is? I know katanas should be more curved but it looks really elegant. What do you think? http://www.coolminiornot.com/297029?browseid=1149514

They seem nice, but would it work to just use spruces? I am a studnet, all saving of money would be nice.
