Anyway, I call upon thee, Tactics board, to help me build 750pts of newbie necrons! Please tell me someone can help me! Any advice is appreciated!

Also, I'm basing this off of the Battleforce, so please use all of the units in the battleforce box. And that's the only guideline I have. Other than that, tear the list apart!

HQ

Overlord w/ War Scythe, Phase Shifter, Sempiternal Weave, Resurrection Orb ... 190

ELITES:

Deathmarks (5) ... 95

TROOPS:

Necron Warriors (10) ... 130

Necron Warriors (10) w/ Ghost Ark ... 245

Immortals (5) ... 85

TOTAL: 745pts

What do you have available completely? You mention the battle force but I see you have a couple more things in that list then 1 battle force could supply (without spare bit).

As a general improvement I'd say you need to add anti-tank. aside from your Overlord nothing is kitted to take out any tank reliably. Adding a couple classic Harbinger of Destruction is a good start.

Based on what you seem to have I wrote these changes to the list.

Overlord 135
w/ warscythe
w/M.S.S.
w/ Phearon

Crypteks x3 120
H.o.Destruction. x2;
H.o.Despair x1;
W/ solar pulse;

Deathmarks x5 95

Warriors x12 15
Warriors x5 180
w/ ghost ark
Scarabs x4 60

Now you have a bit more of an anti tank ability with a few scarabs and some 36" lances. You place both lance crypteks with the warrior squads and the overlord with the big blob.

GENERATION 10: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Me gusta! I actually really like this list! Seems to be pretty nice.

And I forgot about anti-tank, assuming so since it was 750pts

Out of curiosity, where are you next thinking of going with your army? Would you get some more elites or look at getting some of the vehicles?

Sad part though, is some of the best units in the necron army are vehicles. Cat command barges and Annihilation barges are widely considered to be some of the best units of the codex. On the other hand, the elites section is considered to be the weakest section.

Fast attack though (once they get their wraths and tomb blade models) is the hotly contested section that Necron players all agree should be maxed. Its a tough choice between the versatile tomb blades, the infantry munching wraths, or the tank munching scarabs.

Wait, really? I've heard good things about their elites. Plus, this list isn't meant to be competitive, but are the elites really that lack luster?

Oh no, more vehicles

It's not that the elites are bad (excluding flayed ones who got a big middle finger), but that compared to the other slots it's got the least impressive additions.

Lychguard can be used to good effect in groups of 7+. You mostly will want to take at least 7+ and a lord with warscythe, orb, and M.S.S.

Praetorians sadly suffer mostly from being lackluster, they don't do what they do horribly, but they are always overshadowed. Compared to there fast slot counterpart (wraiths) they just fall short. What hurts them the most is only having 1 attack base and no invulnerable. If you do want to use them they are best as back up behind wraiths. Using the wraiths for cover saves. Also if you take them you should always use the caster - void blade combo. It grants an extra attack and grants them base attacks 2.

Flayed ones suck

C'tan suffer the same as most monstrous creatures. They've got a 4++ save still, but without a 2+ it makes them very easy to wipe out with a turn of shooting. I've had lots of games where he was wiped out in 1 turn by a drop podding sternguard. If you do take a c'tan you'll almost certainly want to take the stealth special rules to grant him a 3+ cover save to make him a little more durable during your opponents shooting step.

Triarch stalkers can be good but since you sound like you're not wanting more vehicles I want say much about them.

Deathmarks aren't bad but they haven't found a list that seems to really need them.

If you do want to take a large list with minimum or no vehicles I have a list I can show you.

I'm afraid deathmarks will see their true potential and usage only in 6th edition... Now they are mainly useless...

5 Deathmarks with a Cryptek /w Veil is a very good anti-infantry squad. able to get into the backfield and wipe that longfangs or what have you squad in 1 turn.

I'm realizing this army may become 1000pts, and I don't think I like necrons that much.

Hey, don't rule out the Tin-men just because their Elite section is "meh" !
(and yes, Deathmarks by themselves are nothing special, but Deathmarks with a Harbinger of Despair that has a Veil are vicious)

Like everyone has already stated, it's all about knowing your key squads.
*coughMOREWRAITHScough*

Anyway, here's a couple of viable options if you decide to continue with the 'Crons and want to jump up to the next point tiers-

- - - - -

1000 Mass Production Necrons
ingredients: 1x Battleforce box, 2x Barge box
(may require some crafty conversions, sticking Deathmark heads on a few Warrior bodies, replacing their guns with some sort of stave)

Overlord (Scythe, MS Scarabs) = 115
+Command Barge (Gauss cannon) = 80
3 Harbingers of Destruction (1x Solar Pulse) = 135 (A, B, C)
"Lord" (Scythe) = 45 (D)

5 Warriors = 65 (A)
5 Warriors = 65 (B)
5 Warriors = 65 (C)
5 Immortals (tesla) = 85 (D)

5 Scarabs = 75

Annihilation Barge = 90
Doomsday Ark = 175

- - - - -

1500 Mass Production Necrons
ingredients: 2x Battleforce box, 2x Barge box, 1x Overlord

Overlord (Scythe, MS Scarabs) = 115
+Command Barge (Gauss cannon) = 80
Lord (Scythe, ResOrb) = 75 (A)
Lord (Scythe, ResOrb) = 75 (B)

20 Warriors = 260 (A)
+ Ghost Ark = 115
20 Warriors = 260 (B)
+ Ghost Ark = 115
10 Immortals (tesla) = 170

10 Scarabs = 150

Annihilation Barge = 90

(alternative: split one 20 Warrior block in half (have their Lord join the Immortals), put 10 in each of the Arks, and have the two Arks float alongside the remaining 20 Warrior brick to make it uber impossible to kill)

Well, I really wanted Deathmarks, but if you say that they can be used, I may consider using them still. I do love your 1000pt list! If it becomes a good enough idea, I might use this list!

Yeah, I figured the list would be a pretty easy way for new players to start out (you're gonna need a couple of Barges in addition to the Battleforce... but as they are some of the best vehicles in the game, that's hardly a bad thing. As your army expands, it shouldn't surprise you to suddenly wish you had five of the things).

Like everyone says, it's all about knowing the Necron synergy.

For the Deathmarks, the key to the Death&Despair Squad (D&D squad) is to keep their model-per-unit numbers low.
Reason being, you're abusing their special rule, "Hunters From Hyperspace".
Being the case, instead of having one unit of 10 (like most people would be tempted to run), you break them into two units of 5. That way you'll have twice as many HFH markers.

Now here's where it gets really cheesy: Harbingers of Despair have the Abyssal Staff, a S8 AP1 flame template weapon. The staff usually rolls against LD to wound... but, if the Harbinger is attached to a unit of Deathmarks, any enemy unit they've marked with HFH will be wounded on a 2+ (they can also benefit from the HFH markers placed by OTHER DEATHMARK SQUADS, meaning he more squads, the more death-cheese)
...
An auto hit weapon that wounds on a 2+?
YES PLEASE.

BONUS: for even MORE cheese (bordering on cheating, but rest assured, it's legit), include a C'tan shard with Grand Illusion in the army. What this will let you do is place your D&D squads during deployment (at which point you place HFH markers on enemy units), AND THEN, once Grand Illusion activates, you stick the units back into reserve!
Then, when they come back onto the board later in the game, TA-DA~!, the squad gets to place ANOTHER HFH marker! You'll potentially be able to mow down 3-4 infantry units, provided you've equipped your Harbingers of Despair with Veils of Darkness so you can get around to all of them.
