Hi all,
i was wondering, if a walker is locked in close combat can it use its smoke launcher during the shooting phase of the controlling player?
The following situation came up in a game, my dreadnought was locked in combat for a few turn with infantry , it was likely that it would win the combat during my turn but even with consolidation it would have been exposed to a lot of heavyweapon fire.
I checked in the BRB but didn't find anything either allowing or disallowing it.
It states that smoke launchers are used in the shooting phase and that when used the unit cannot fire...
Does models locked in close combat still have a shooting phase(during wich they can't fire being locked in assault)?
Do they skip it? Or is the shooting phase for the entire army as opposed to individual units?
(I hope that make sense english is not my first language)

thanks for any help

you are free to use the smoke launchers and receive a cover save in the following shooting phase.

Smoke Launchers are deployed during the movement phase, not the shooting one. That said, there's nothing preventing you deploying them in combat, so fire away. You obviously won't get a cover save against the CC attacks.

Thanks for the quick answer and to point out that cover don't apply in assault.
I am happy to learn that because to keep the game going my opponent didn't object and a cover save seemed almost too good to be true (the dreadnought was in the backfield near a few squads of long fangs)

AHEM.

YES YOU DO.

Okay you don't but I think a dreadnought could probably blow smoke in their faces.

gives new meaning to the phrase 'blowing off smoke', huh?

You wouldn't get a cover save in CC, but if your opponent fired ordinance and it scattered onto the walker in CC, you would get a cover save then.

Or if you managed to kill them all and could now be shot. That might be a good reason to pop smoke.
