What do you face? purifier spam, paladin spam, hybrid? List building depends on this. For an all around run shooty

I would generally say Orks cant beat GK's, because GK's have overpowered shooting and close combat.

The only thing that would be good is battlewagon spam, as armor 14 is hard for them to crack, and you can do "ok" in close combat.

looted wagons with boom-guns perhaps, they might be able to mess up some knights.
Perhaps some lootas, they can out-range their shooting, and wound on twos with the strength 7 shooting. They also can pop rhinos if he goes mechanized.

I hate fighting GK with my Orks, but when I do I usually try to take as many Battlewagons as possible or run a really good shooty list.

There are some things you should avoid taking aside from the usual when fighting GK.

1) Trukks, I find they are quite pointless. GK units can easily pop them from range and even if they don't, a unit of 12 Boyz get's cleaned up quite quickly by GK.

2) Nobz, because the Nemesis Force Weapons will ignore FNP from a painboy and also kill outright making the 2 wounds of Nobz pointless. Only take Nobz if you're doing BW spam and you need them, and then you should be taking a pretty minimalist squad.

3) Don't bring a heavy-kitted warboss. If he has a PK, he will get singled out and killed in CC before he even hits. If you do bring a WB the only reason is to make a Nob squad a troop choice and the only reason to take a Nob squad against GK is so they can take a BW as a transport. So if you do take a WB, give him a Big Choppa and not much else. This at least lets him strike at Initiative 5 on the charge giving him the chance to deal some damage before he dies.

4) The regular unreliable types of units, like Weirdboyz (never take Psykers vs GK), Tankbustaz, and even Burnas unless they're in a burna wagon are not things I would reccomend.

Now, there are some Ork units that I find work better against GK

1) Lootas, they pop rhinos/razorbacks/stormravens/dreadnoughts and can do some damage to infantry too. They are crucial I think against most GK lists that are not deep-strike oriented, and if you do a shooty list you should take the maximum amount possible in a 2000 pt game.

2) Battlewagons. They have AV14 Front armor, a big deff rolla that can smash whatever you need, and can bring 20 boyz which is pretty much the minimum amount of orks you want to throw into assault against GK.

3) Big Mek w/ KFF, that one is a no-brainer.

4) The customary rokkit FA choices like Deffkoptas and Rokkit buggies...I prefer buggies and I don't like Buzzkoptas against GK.

5) There are other units you can use like Bikers and stormboyz etc...I don't include these as exceptionally good or bad against GK, and YMMV if you take em.

6) This last one is for Shooty lists only, and is a risky choice to take but can completely jam your opponent. Big Mek w/ SAG. I only include this because you have the slight chance of vaporizing an entire squad of Paladins in one shooting phase. A small chance yes, but it has happened for me once and it was wonderful. I was lucky though, so don't count on it.

Hope that helps ya out a bit.

@Reckoner: Great advice. Especially going out-on-a-limb with the SAG. I haven't played GK with da boyz yet... I may be purposely avoiding them...

shoot there rhinos with lootaz (if you can afford put them into BW)
burn the purifier (from a BW ofc)
bait him with 3 Nobz or meganobz pretending to not now that they get doomed (you take them for the free BW)
and the SAG always is funny, and be honest if you try to beat GK with orks on 2k points playing it "serious" ull have absolutly 0 fun fielding 3 to 4 times 10 purifiers
and i have to say the almost best game i had against my gk freind was fielding 2 wyrdboyz and lucking my way throug. almost because i lost but it was 4 hours of permanent laughter

its nobs vs tervigon what you gonna do?
INSANE COURAGE and dont care!

Frankly, you'll simply lose to optimal GK lists with competent generals more often than not. Reckoner has given you some great advice though, I agree with him on all his points. Except, I would put more emphasis on using the SAG because, in addition to being fun and having the potential to win games, it can confuse your opponent's target priority. It's difficult to judge whether the SAG is actually a threat, and it may even provoke your opponent into making bad decisions. Good luck!

Use a mix of battlewagons and trukks. Assault with trukk boys(still pk not hurt by purifiers as much and still numerous enough to keep nob alive vs others) and put shoota boys in battlewagons and stay there and shoot them to death. Other then that its like fighting standard meq

Aye this is a good point, throwing in some confusing aspects for your opponent can cause them to slip up. The first army I ever bought and played with was GK, like 6 years ago back when they were a hilarious niche army, and a terminator cost like 50 points and a marine cost 25 or something like that. and yeah termies still had same stats.

Once they beefed up the army I sort of lost interest...for a few reasons. maybe one was the hipster "i played gk before they were good" subconscious attitude. Really though, I just wasn't having fun anymore. Orks were the answer. Whether you are shooting snotlings at them through the warp, or crashing into them with a Deffrolla, Ork battle style is not typical of a lot of armies and I love it. Embrace that and you can win,and even if you don't you'll still have a blast. Good luck

Oh now I remember what I was also going to say before that tangent. If you take a SAG Big Mek and you do a shooty army, I really reccomend taking Big Gunz (Kannons) over Looted Wagons. You can attach your Mek to one of the squads and he can fire at different targets while still benefitting from being in a squad. Max out the grot crew always.

We've had some success in this area using a super-shooty list;

45 lootas
2-4 units of shoota boyz, all with rokkits
9 kannons

as the core. It puts out a ridiculous amount of firepower, and the small squad sizes of GK armies start to work against them.

Shoota boyz can launch mopping up assaults against anything except purifiers easily enough.
