Just a random question that might be obvious. But felt like hearing loud and clear. If I charge with rough riders, and only 3 get into combat out of 10.
Does all lances get wasted or only those 3 that actually strike ?

All of them are wasted. "When they charge into close combat, a unit armed...", the unit is armed, not just the models.

The way the wording of the Hunting Lance rule indicates that on the first charge, even if only a few of the Riders make it, all of them use their hunting lances. Best to make the charge count.

Derp. Yea, smacking 10 riders together and hoping more then four gets into the actual combat doesn't really feel all that awesome anymore. Sadface

Remember, the unit you charge has to react to it and move as many models into base-to-base as well. The only time this doesn't happen is if you charge an existing combat. So, if you do charge an existing combat; make sure you well with-in range.

I think that you are wrong, as I read the codex (i have not read any faq) those models that get to make their attacks as normal in cc so the 3 in b2b and any models within 2" of those models can use their lances.
The unit is armed hence all the models are armed so any that get to make their attacks do so.

However, in the rules it says "When they charge into close combat, a unit armed with hunting lances counts as being armed with Power weapons that strike at Strength and Initiative 5." It's the unit that uses the lance special rule to count as power weapons, while it is the models that are armed with them. Since it says "a unit armed..." that means it's all or nothing item, and a person really can't choose nothing since it specifically states that they use them the first time they charge.

Well yes certainly, just seemed like putting counters on those that just blew their lances seemed a bit off and at the same time while you pile in with the rest of them, they don't use their lances but instead fight in regular close combat (due to not assaulting). Seems a bit messed up from my point of view.

Could work, but seems dirty if you charge a small unit and use that tactic just to save up some lances for a later charge.

Haven't read and FAQ's about it and rough riders doesn't seem to be so well used overall

The unit counts as being armed, not the individual models. The whole unit.

Sorry i didn't get what you meant, I thought you meant the ones in b2b were the only ones that get to use the lance. I agree that the whole unit is used up when 1 uses his lance.
