So does a Hive Guard have to roll D3 to see how far it can shoot during night fighting? I was thinking it would just shoot 24" ever time because it does not need line of site.

Night fight rules are not line of sight, so it means if the target unit isn't within the spotting distance, the hive guard cannot shoot them.

Additionally night fighting is roll 2d6 then multiply by 3.

Yes. LOS /= Spotting distance, even though UK Indy GT got this horribly wrong.and thought the two were the same.

If you are not within Spotting Distance you dont get to fire, this has NOTHING to do with LOS
