Hi folks / vets / masters / and bringers-of-wisdom!

Even though I've basically swallowed the rulebook, I'm still new to the game and don't know how some rules play out. I was playing my okrs against a more experienced player's IG army and shot a vet squad with my SAG, and it scattered over his mantacore tank instead. As I'd rolled strength 9, I was pretty confident.

The large blast template clearly covered the side/top of the tank. However he said to me when you scatter over a tank you switch to the smaller blast template (which only covered the side sponson) then he said if the hole doesn't touch the sponson itself it classes as a miss anyway. Trusting his experience we played on happily, had a good game (and I lost by 1 kill point ).

Since checking - I couldn't find anything in the rules about this - the only thing I found was if you shoot at a tank and it scatters so the hole misses, you half the firing strength of the weapon and resolve the penetration against the armor the hole is facing regardless of where the shooter is facing.

Is there something I've missed, or something in the FAQs about either changing blast templates from large to small or about the hole needing to cover the sponson for it to be considered a hit? Or could this just be a misunderstanding or a house rule he's grown up with?

Thanks folks!! You're all legends!

h.

He cheated ya

Templates never change size - you never switch to a smaller blast template.

Regardless of size, if the centre hole of the template is not over the vehicle's hull, the strength of the hit against the vehicle is at half strength (rounded up) - but it's still a hit of the template touches it. I'm guessing he just wanted to weasel out of getting hit by the SAG. What strength did you roll for the SAG, by the way?

Well, since you were off, it would have been a str5 hit - which I doubt would have had any effect at all - so it doesn't look like it changed the game at all.

But still, knowing is half the battle

Yea - you're probably right. Could have rolled lucky though and stopped it shooting its silly rockets at me for a turn... but I'm an ork player - I don't roll lucky! ;-)

Cheers for the help!

S4 actually - you round down.

The hole only has to be slightly touching the hull
