So I am trying to base my terminators. The theme that I was going for on their bases was smooth ground, which would be crystal, and having the termies sink into the crystal making it shard up around their feet.
My initial thought on the idea was to cover the base in plastic cut to fit, such as a CD. Cut holes for the feet to sink into, then fill in the gaps with broken CD shards comming up around the feet.
So basically, any one else have some thoughts or feedback on the idea?

Id say go ahead with it another thing you could do if you had a old phone or really anything with a glass screen is to crack the glass and use it for the crystal.

yeah ive been thinking of ebaying alot of old touch phones but the CDs sound a bit cheaper

It's a really sweet idea actually, but sounds like you'll need to source out some really thin glass or other brittle material for it to work.

How thick do you want this crystal layer to be, in scale? Unwanted CDs or jewel cases will be cheap and readily available, but they're thick enough that you won't be able to make fine shards without the stuff looking more like coarse gravel than shattered crystal. I'd use something thinner, like the plastic from a blister pack, cut (instead of broken, as it's flexible) into shape to form finer shards.

The idea is definitely promising. Excited to see how it turns out!

I agree CD cases would be much better for this than the CD themselves.

I see what ya'll are sayin'. When I got home last night I did some tests, I think a good mix of thicknesses of plastic will work the best, you know for deminsion. I'll make a test one a post to see how it is. My beyblade blister plastic is nice too so they should work, the plastic from them seems a bit thicker than the GW blister plastic.

I foresee Bad-aids in your future... lots of them.

I did this, only the CD trays were made into Necron looking Sheets of Metal

This is a fantastic idea, but needs to be done with due care and attention. Cutting yourself would be no fun.
