Can anyone reccomend a magent size to magnetize metal terminator arms?
I have a whole pile of metal chaos terminators that are dying to have interchangeable arms!
Thanks! Automatically Appended Next Post: Really 29 views and not a single comment?

When I originally started magnetizing my BA, I bought 1/8" diameter by 1/8" long disc magnets. This caused a problem as they were almost TOO long for marine arms. I have since switched to something much thinner but I still occasionally use the larger magnets as they are noticeably stronger and can hold larger parts, including metal ones. If you are trying to figure out the size before you buy them, I would go with 1/8" diameter by about 1/16" or so length. That way you can use them in most other marine type applications (back packs, arms, weapons, etc..) For metal marines this should work, but if it doesn't then I would just go with something a bit longer instead of something with a larger diameter. It's always easier drilling a larger hole than it is to use GS to fix the details in the arm you just drilled clean through.

Thanks! 1/8 x 1/16 was what I was considering but I was unsure if it would be strong enough to hold the metal arms

1/8 x 1/16 works, but 1/8 by 1/8 definitely works for terminators too. The important thing is to get your magnets flush with each other. If the magnet in the torso is not flush with the magnet in the arm, you lose a lot of magnetic strength.

To improve the hold you could always place a thicker magnet in the torso and thinner in the arms.

I may try the 1/8x1/8 in the torso, that def sound like a solid Idea.
Any tips on keeping magnets flush?

Make the mounting holes slightly wider and deeper than they need to be, then put some GS in the base of the hole. Push magnet in, and apply superglue around it (sealing the gap around it.)

I always just drilled the hole little by little until they fit in. I used a drill bit the same size as the magnet so that way there would only be one axis you would have to use GS on if the hole was too big/deep.

hrmm, intriguing.
Sounds like getting 10+ ready at once and then g/s glueing will be the ticket
Maybe I'll try this out when I get home from work in 10 days
If I do I will be postin gup my results on My Workbench (P&M blog)

I use 1/8 X 1/16 In. magnets for arms.

I just picked up 300 1/8 x 1/16 magnets on ebay for this project. (whoop $12.95 shipped!)
I figure if it doesn't seem strong enough I will just double stack them!
